As well as The Fallen, our website pays tribute to those linked to the Club who served their country but survived the war years. They include groundsman Alan Storey, who flew RAF sorties over occupied Europe. Read his story, here:

My tribute to those former players and officials who fell in both world wars can be found at this link. There are more than just the four on the preview!

The most difficult job in Association Football was carried off impeccably again today. I'm talking, of course, about playing The Last Post in front of 7822 silent spectators at the club's remembrance game. If it was me doing it, it'd come out rather more like the Portsmouth Symphonia.

Also on this day in 1980: Supporters Club reps Phil Tooley and Howard Borrell present a bicycle to Chesterfield physio Steve Wanless. Just the thing for some poor apprentice to have to nip down to the shop on, to fetch Bob Pepper's pipe tobacco.

Phil Bonnyman dives to head in one of his goals in our 2-1 win over Brentford on this day in 1980. From the lens of Alan Roe.

On this day in 1947, thanks to the excellent "Hatters Heritage" website. I think the Chesterfield man in the photo is Stan Milburn.

I'm having a good scrape through genealogy websites to further knowledge of Chesterfield's Victorian footballers. Time to remember the names of Allwood Nall, Daniel Casey, "Sep" Holland and Billy Kirwin, ex-Spireites united by the fact that they all died in the Chesterfield Workhouse.

The Spireites’ 3-1 win at Southport that lifted them to 6th in the table today was a triumph of good, all-round teamwork. The defence and halfbacks worked with a unity of purpose that negated the opposing attack, and the forwards were smart and sharp. Cookson combined well with his wings

A man of Mr. Infantino's principles will no doubt already have a winner in mind.

Tue Nov 4th, 1986. Fulham, home, won 3-1. Moss 2, Caldwell. The debut of Phil Greaves, by no means the first, but certainly the the last man ever to play for Chesterfield after having done a shift at a coal mine. Ernie is pictured here scoring from one of Phil's crosses. 1/2

I'm pleased we avoided having to put the broken seats back in for Mansfield.

In time, we're hoping we might be able to do WILLIE PAUL right with a headstone; it's not so easy though as we're duty bound by regulations to try and connect with any living relatives to gain permissions. Retweets far & wide appreciated. Thank you. 🙏

Willie Paul - any living relatives out there?
We're hoping that, perhaps through a crowdfunder, we can give Willie Paul and his family a decent final resting place; a place where we, and future generations, can visit and pay our respects. It's no...

Yesterday's gate of 2,084 isn't the lowest we've played in front of in an away game against a team from a higher division. Salford own that prize with the 1,997 who saw us win there in the 2021-2 season. Our lowest at home is 2199 vs Wrexham in 2019-20. Where was everyone when we were both sh*t? 😁

Chesterfield's FA Cup record in ties against teams from a higher sphere now stands at Played 52, Won 14, lost 38.

Lee Bonis became the 124th Chesterfield player to successfully convert a penalty for The Spireites yesterday. If he takes them all and scores them all, then at the rate we are given them, he will be 44 before he overhauls Alan Birch's 17 goals from the spot.

Our FA Cup second round game will be our 250th since playing Clay Cross Town in the 1919-20 FA Cup preliminary round, as the Chesterfield Municipal FC.

Today's win was Paul Cook's 13th FA Cup win as Chesterfield manager. That puts him one ahead of Teddy Davison and makes him, as our American cousins would say but I bloody well wouldn't, Chesterfield's winningest FA Cup manager.

I think, and I hope you'll agree, that if you beat the highest-placed team that you can possibly play, then you should be given the Cup.

Just the sort of press snippet to give you the willies a week before our remembrance service. Happily, our man was found, albeit by the Germans. He saw out the rest of the war in a POW camp, rather than having his name hastily added to our memorial with a sharpie.

Chesterfield’s four-game winning streak came to a halt this afternoon as Doncaster Rovers took a point from Saltergate in an entertaining 2-2 draw. Oliver Thompson, pictured, came back in for Jack Meads at left-half after a 9-game injury lay-off, 1/4 #CFC100
