Who is the most impactful Toffees signing?
It’s hard to look past William Ralph Dean, but Bobby Collins, born 16 February 1931, helped to transform a dormant-feeling club in the late 1950s and propel the Blues in the 1960s. Leeds United supporters may concur on his influence.

On this day, 42 years ago, the Toffees best Aston Villa, 2-0, in the first leg of the Milk Cup semi-final.
Kevin Sheedy and Kevin Richardson were on target; the latter also got away with a handball to deny a Villa goal.
The second leg was a week later.

Born on this day in 1892, one of Britain’s great amateur multi-disciplinary sportsmen: Benjamin Howard Baker.
The Liverpool-raised goalkeeper is closely associated with Chelsea but represented the Toffees, too. He was also an Olympic athlete.

On this day in 1915, the Toffees were pushing for the Football League title thanks to a 5-1 defeat of Aston Villa. Goalscoring sensation Bobby Parker grabbed three. We recently had Bobby's grave headstone in Glasgow re-erected.

Born on this day in 1910, Ted Sagar. Capped by England, the Yorkshireman - dubbed “The Boss” - won the FA Cup and two league titles with the Toffees, racking up 497 appearances before retiring in 1953. He subsequently became a publican. More info:
