We are sorry to hear that Vera Hickey, a lifelong Blue who was raised on Goodison Avenue, passed away on 3 February.

On this day in 1915, the Toffees were pushing for the Football League title thanks to a 5-1 defeat of Aston Villa. Goalscoring sensation Bobby Parker grabbed three. We recently had Bobby's grave headstone in Glasgow re-erected.

Born on this day in 1910, Ted Sagar. Capped by England, the Yorkshireman - dubbed “The Boss” - won the FA Cup and two league titles with the Toffees, racking up 497 appearances before retiring in 1953. He subsequently became a publican. More info:

Born on this day, 79 years ago, John Hurst.
A forward converted into a classy centre-back, he was a fantastic servant to the Toffees. A deserving recipient of the Dixie Dean award from EFCHS in 2019.

On 5 February 1994, 18,821 watched the Toffees earn a 4-2 home defeat of Chelsea FC, with Brett Angell getting his only goal for the club.
An alarming dip in form (and results) from mid-March onwards led to the infamous match against Wimbledon at the conclusion of the season.

On this day in 1988, Trevor Steven scored at the death with a header at Ayresome Park, to take this FA Cup tie to a 2nd replay ( a 2-1 win at Goodison Park).

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Football Association of Wales, all the more reason to post a picture of one of its first star players, goalkeeper Leigh Roose, declared MIA in France in 1916. Very proud, so I am, to be this wonderful man's biographer.
