So that was Sunday January 4th 2026. Crikey. Another day done, another day (more or less) here. So it goes.

(Released this very month in 1947, a mere 79 years ago, Plastic Man #7, with its classic cover by the brilliant Jack Cole.)

And so to bed. Sleep well, gentle sentients.

Heck’s late 70s DC work is snappy and spirited again (like his early 60s Marvel stuff).
Remembering the late comics artist Don Heck, born on this date in 1929, known best for his time at Marvel drawing such titles as Iron Man and The Avengers — but who also worked at DC, where he tackled one of my Supergirl stories in 1979. How lucky I was to work with someone who dazzled me as a kid!

The first time I read any TERRY, aside from one-off strips here and there, was in some reprint books from the 70s that didn't get far into the run.

The second time was in the summer of 1978, when I spent most Saturdays at the Boston Public Library, reading all of TERRY, the first 12+ years of...
79 years ago today. The final TERRY AND THE PIRATES strip by Milton Caniff. An elegant capper of a brilliant run.

seems likely you would already know about this book, but if you are unfamiliar with "Who Needs Donuts" by Mark Alan Stamaty I think you would really like it. Wild illustrations, absurd tone, great message

In 1841, American painter John Goffe Rand invented the collapsible paint tube, which kept colors fresh outdoors.

By the 1880s, Van Gogh relied on them to work in fields and streets, making plein-air painting central to his style.
