No amount of conformity and obeisance to authoritarians will spare you, especially if you are a member of a group they use to scapegoat.

For @truthout.org I wrote an analysis of the mass deportation boom during 2025. Amid all the spectacle, the passage of the funding bill in July was an ominous milestone in the history of U.S. immigration policy and the Trump administration's aspiring fascism.

With Congress-approved funding, ICE detention is expected to triple in size, mirroring the scale of Japanese internment.

“We need both realism and compassion... People’s discomfort is understandable, but the crisis reflects deeper systemic issues, such as housing, employment and the toxic drug supply. We need nuanced conversations about what’s working and what isn’t so we can find solutions.” #overdosepreventionsites

We should be applauding people who break rules to stop what's happening. Failing to break rules is what's worthy of critique right now. That's the stuff people should have an explanation for — and I know, some do, and that's fine, but the absolute moral minimum is supporting those who resist.

That RFK article has me darkly wondering about what future generations will think & do about accountability? To what extent might punishment & violence against alleged perpetrators be part of that?

All the more reason to take action now, but maybe not acting on rage.

Anyway, Happy End to 2025

In Japan and in most European nations, primary care systems have the capacity to find and vaccinate children who face a higher risk for vaccine-preventable diseases — and in many of those countries, paid sick leave also helps minimize the spread of contagions through schools and offices."
