one of the things a lot of technocrats don't get about Star Trek is that the future of Star Trek?

it can be *right now*

we don't need spaceships, we don't need replicators, we just need a society that is built for humans and not...um...

Technocrats
He does not want Star Trek. He wants to co-opt the aesthetic of Star Trek to sell his techno-feudalist futurist wet dream. Star Trek hates men like him.
"We want to make Star Trek real," said Elon Musk.

"We want to make Starfleet Academy real so that it's not always science fiction, but one day the science fiction turns to science fact."

This! If Musk or Bezos or Altman or Bill Gates truly wanted to make Star Trek real, they could do it right now by spending all their wealth to help dismantle this capitalist colonial system.

I totally support people not wanting to give Paramount money and won't watch Starfleet Academy. But when talking about it, remember, Academy was mostly made before the Skydance merger & the creatives on the show don't necessarily support David Ellison but can't speak out about it due to their jobs.

If you are anxious and sad about the state of the world, that's fine, and there are plenty of strategies for dealing with that. But I think you already know that drive-by online dooming isn't a strategy. It's selfish and adolescent. It's a contagion that only spreads the worst of you, not the best.

one would thought that a hook/rack and a shelf is not too much to ask, esp since rooms often have the wildest interior design, but apparently it's impossible task. sometimes I think that whoever is doing that, not only never stayed at hotel, but never showered or bathed either

last hotel I was in had a mirror in bathroom that was just. hanged on a rope like a pendant and swung wildly with lightest touch. also it took me whole day to discover how to turn on the light over the sink. is this supposed to be some sort of enrichment for us or what

hotels are allergic to all kinds of towel racks and hooks and surfaces you can put your things on in bathrooms (and in the shower, so you have to bend down for shampoo). nobody knows whjy is that but it seems to be universal thing

Dictionary of the Oldest Written Language–It Took 90 Years to Complete, and It’s Now Free Online
It took 90 years to complete. But, in 2011, scholars at the University of Chicago finally published a 21-volume dictionary of Akkadian, the language used in ancient Mesopotamia.

Scully and Mulder are branded sceptic and a believer, but I like how these roles can be very easily reversed, because while Mulder's theories can be out of whack, he's always ready to test them, and Scully tends to use science as a shield in a "this is how the world IS, that's it" way, it's cool
