Adoption of a plant-rich “planetary health diet” could prevent 40,000 early deaths a day across the world, according to a landmark report.
The diet – which allows moderate meat consumption – and related measures would also slash the food-related emissions driving global heating by half by 2050. Today, a third of greenhouse gas emissions come from the global food system and taming the climate crisis is impossible without changing how the world eats, the researchers said. Dystopian post-pandemic novels are echoing the dystopian post-nuclear winter novels I devoured in the 80s. I wonder if these will leave lasting nightmares, or if that was a side-effect of teenage imagination.

We moved house a week ago, and I’ve had no brain for anything but sorting, tossing, and figuring out where things go. Everything is a mess.

When I was an undergraduate, I used to collect leaves for pathogen samples from these fields. These are good people.
Well we still have famine to look forward to.

Grabbing a cheeky coffee after dropping the husband in town, and my usual cafe is takeaway only. I was so thrown by the changes I started questioning what day and time it is, like that somehow changes everything. Existential coffee.

I am 50 years old, why are parent teacher meetings still stressful? My kid is mostly doing fine despite the inherent lack of support for neurodivergence in mainstream schooling.

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale

They’re canceling all “DEI and misinformation/disinformation” grants.
And the guidance on how to fulfill the longstanding, legally mandated Broadening Participation requirement is utterly incoherent.
