The beets have slipped out of their jackets, been sliced, and are currently flash freezing. I’m also dyeing a bit of cotton lace trim, because that color is just too pretty to waste! ✨

I keep thinking I’m out of the woods with this cold, but I guess I’m not. So did I take my pain meds and then head out into the garden cause I can’t stand to sit in my chair anymore? Why, yes, yes I did. 🥲Harvested the rest of the beets. They’re roasting covered at 400°F with a little bit of water.

Mornin’…I was woken up at 2 am by critters dancing in the ceiling above my bed. Was able to get back to sleep, but I am achy, groggy, and low-spoons already. A neighbor had this for free, so I drove over the line to get it. They don’t make them sturdy like this anymore. Been looking for months! 🙌

All respect to OP, but there’s a better way. Couple years ago, my ability to focus was abysmal. But I used to devour 100s of pages per day as a teenager. I fixed it by just incrementally & slowly reading. A paragraph at a time, then a page, then a couple pages, and now I can read for 1+ hours again.
Too many people have resigned themselves to not reading because they fear they no longer have the focus for it. You only need to limit your screen time for a few days to begin feeling the effects on your brain. I promise you, you are capable of reading books again.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Finally got around to shelling the rest of the beans. 🫘 I’m watching Tia Weston‘s YT channel. She bought a $1 house 1 year ago in her rural town, gutted it & turned it into a beautiful home. She bought a second $1 house, will be renovating it too, and the proceeds from that sale will go to charity.

As a POTSie, I need electrolytes often, but I refuse to pay these commercial prices. Say hello to Soren’s DIY electrolyte powder! Came out to 19¢ per serving vs the $1-2 per serving for name brand electrolytes! $4.60 for a 24 serving batch. It’s delicious & works. 🍓🧂✨

November weather is a bit strange this year! Woke up to fog again, then the sun came out, and now it’s raining. 🌧️
This sourdough sandwich loaf I got yesterday and cranberry red pepper jelly are both so incredibly delicious, I can’t even explain! Today’s a perfect day for staying cozy inside.

I went to my town’s outdoor holiday market today. I had so much fun! Met an herbalist, a community gardener, so many artists, a sourdough baker, a seamstress, and more. I got shin splints, but also all my Christmas gifts in one go! 🎁

The stability I’m creating emotionally, practically & spiritually didn’t come from being rescued or sheer luck.
It came from lots of intentional, continuous choosing.
And to quell the fears, I’m always reminding myself: “I’m the one who built this peace. If it ever shifts, I can build it again.”

I'm still thinking about this.
There is SNAP fraud, but it's not recipients doing it, it's every corporation that doesn't pay a living wage.

Very notably, people are working full-time at Walmart, and still qualifying for SNAP. Walmart gives their employees a class on applying for benefits.
And then those employees spend their SNAP *at Walmart*.
That's the con, right there.

Let me trickle a few clues on the trail to understanding food insecurity in a nation that COULD, and damn well SHOULD, easily afford sufficient food in this country for everyone, birth to death. 1. Many people who need food assistance *are working full time* but are paid so little they cannot

Woke up to a spooky scene! It’s chilly & damp outside, so I put some crumbles in a bowl and slid it into the coop and sure enough, the hens wanted “breakfast in bed” haha. Coffee, heating pad & extra meds this morning. Somehow, I set my recovery back with dishes & a tiny bit of gardening yesterday.🥲

Never tried planting garlic before! Thanks for the idea @herbygardens.bsky.social. ☺️ I only had 3/4 of a grocery store bulb that was sprouting & it’s probably soft neck, which may or may not work in my region #zone7a but hey, it’s an experiment! Gorgeous day for being in the garden. ☀️ 🌱

Raspberries in November! Let me tell ya, I’m extremely happy with this small grower on Etsy. Never had thornless raspberries before, but I love them. These were so tasty. 😋

Hmm, I was extremely unsuccessful at good sleep last night (full moon?) but we carry on. What’s everyone up to today? I’ve got therapy and that’s it. This cold or whatever it is has got me in a vice grip, but I do feel maybe 10% better today. More rest today is required; grateful I can do so. 🛌 🫖

Because I didn’t get a chance to do so earlier, I am sitting out on my pitch black deck at 7 pm at night reading my medicinal plant book with my headlamp. It is warm, balmy, and there are no bugs because we had enough hard frosts already. Confusing weather, but a perfect moment in time for me. 🌕

I don’t get impressed by authority figures or politicians ever, except for Khan. Incredibly intelligent, passionate, and compassionate woman. Mamdani is wise to have her on his team.
Khan's appointment sends a message to the tech industry, whose most powerful players have already been critical of Mamdani, a Democratic socialist.
