I don't know how many times I've listened to the radio and heard a DJ just play this before or after playing "Can You Get To That" — it's a lot in recent years — but pretty much every time it works on me like gangbusters. Recycling is cool, actually!

I don't know if this is my very favorite ConMan song but it *is* kind of the ideal form of a ConMan song to me. I also love the video, love any video that feels like it's beamed in from another universe's public access channel.

This was my introduction to Faye Webster and it gave a great first impression. I just stumbled across this song rife with ennui and the sense that it's nice outside and you're going nowhere in August 2020 and it really resonated. Dunno why!

The actual awful choice I have to make re: Janelle Monae is which non-single song I vote for down the road. Singles-wise, this is my favorite one of my favorite album she's put out. Effortlessly cool!

"I Jake the Snake 'em, DDT 'em in mausoleums" is maybe my favorite wrestling reference in a rap song and there are about eight million of those so I figure the song it's on ought to make my list.

In 2019 I got breakfast at a cafe in Baltimore and they had the radio on. The DJ played "Love on Top," then kept it on repeat during an "upcoming community events" air break, and then just played it in full *again* after he was done talking. Perfect.

Day 1. "Begin Again" by Purity Ring (2015)
My 2015 Pop Poll main! It didn't do well, but that's the voters' problem and not mine because it's great electropop :)

If you're planning on going to the Torrent game tonight and you've got a higher risk profile (i.e., if you're brown), be extremely vigilant.

Eric Johnson was a respected Democratic state rep when he was elected mayor in 2019. This made sense, as Dallas is deep blue. Johnson's tenure began normally.
But then he started hanging out with Republicans. 🧵
Gavin Newsom: "I agree with you."
