This is why joy is resistance.

This is why imagination and creativity and art fuel revolutions.

What does good feel like? What does it taste like? Who is there? What music are they dancing to?

So keep shining a light on what’s bad, but make sure to widen the spotlight for what’s good, too.

Today, like every day, doing the work so that schools-workplaces-hospitals-movies theaters-homes-streets across this gorgeous country DON’T have to.

We just can’t go fast enough.

The American Medical Association surveyed doctors about insurance “prior authorizations” and found:

41 prior auths per doctor per week

13 hours spent per week on prior auths

24% reported hospitalizations due to delays from prior auths

8% reported disability/deaths due to delays from prior auths

Had to take iron awhile back, and did that silly thing where I didn’t take my own advice and just took it without any regard for my gut. Torture.

Duh - the vitamin c!

Took next dose with glass of water with half of a lemon squeezed into it - and no issues!

Elf on a shelf is intense this year!

All the kids swap stories and rules that must be followed.

1️⃣ you cannot touch the elf with bare hands
2️⃣ elves are only available for purchase like 5 days per year
3️⃣ there are only two types - sweet or mischievous

It's like fight club, but for elementary kids.

Nothing makes my heart happier than having my 8 year old read this to me tonight.

A well loved classic that I read to her every night until she was nearly 2.

Wasn’t expecting a little caricature sketch at Costco this morning, but it was a lovely surprise!

Thanks Billy!

#GBBS finale is just what I needed this morning.

It seems so low stakes but it is the highest stakes of pushing oneself to edge of growth and doing something never thought imaginable.

Tearing up, clapping and jumping up and down for the winner and at all the lovely updates! What a delight.

Incredible thread highlighting all the science that has led to our modern era.

Science is amazing.

#MedSky #VaccinesSaveLives
There are so many more. According to this effort, around 100 scientists alone have saved 5 billion lives in the modern era: scienceheroes.com/

That is very nearly all of us. We are not here, had they not been here. Our family trees would not protrude into modernity.

Always good to remember that during a holiday, there is an uptick in patients with vague or minor complaints. They may really just be lonely, depressed, and need a sympathetic ear. Take the 5 minutes to talk to them and find out what’s really going on. A kind word & sympathy go a long way. #MedSky

We have the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade on, one of the few times we watch network TV.

My kids are baffled by the spotty reception and commercials.

Listen up kids, we only had 5 channels growing up and only 3 came in at once so we would have to run outside to move the huge antenna.

So, I devoured Amanda Ripley's book High Conflict.

I walked away with 5 timeless principles for reducing high conflict.

I don't miss working in the hospital on holidays. But I do have fond memories.

My favorite was the year a patient joked with us every day about how many turkeys the kitchen would need to make for Thanksgiving.

So I called the hospital operator, who connected me to someone in the kitchen.

Doing some #IM residency interviews today.

My favorite part is pulling the best genuine quotes from letters of recommendation and reading them to the candidate at the end of the interview.

I think it was @gradydoctor.bsky.social who shared this tip.

I like it for a couple reasons. 👇

Working on holiday card.

Wanted to put something uplifting, so I asked my girls for updates on their future aspirations (they are 6 and 8, and full of silliness).

They said they would like to be pee and poop doctors.

Should I put nephrologist and GI doc? Would only the docs laugh?

Well. This feels different. A good different.

Looks and feels like the old place, but… my feed is actually full of beautiful pictures, real science, poetry, and happy things. Like what is this!?!
