We are dismayed and angered by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's statement on the Supreme Court ruling.

Omagh Pride is dismayed and angered by the statement from Fermanagh & Omagh District Council that it will be “implementing the provisions” of the recent British Supreme Court ruling, the implication of which is that trans people would be excluded from single-gender spaces. The Supreme Court’s ruling does not apply in Northern Ireland, as we have separate equality legislation, and we therefore cannot understand how or why the council has rushed to this position. Coming on the back of the Stormont Executive’s puberty blocker ban, this is yet another decision that would have a deeply adverse impact on trans people, adding to isolation and putting their safety at risk. Trans people are a small minority who are, unfortunately, already marginalised in society and facing rising hate crime, in the context of growing demonisation from the far right, as well as sections of the media and the political establishment. We reject the baseless implication that trans people represent a threat to women and girls. There has been a horrifying rise in gender-based violence, including femicide, in Northern Ireland over recent years, but this violence has overwhelmingly been perpetrated by cisgender men, not trans people. Misogynistic attitudes are fomented by precisely the same right-wing forces which are leading the attack on trans people and their rights. We reject cynical attempts to counterpose trans rights and women's rights from those who have no interest in either. We call on our local elected representatives to immediately and clearly speak out against this statement from Fermanagh & Omagh District Council and to ensure that no changes to policy are implemented which would undermine the rights and risk the safety of trans people. We intend to contact our elected representatives on this issue and we encourage the wider LGBTQ+ community and allies to do the same. If this decision is not immediately overturned, Omagh Pride will be working with others to organise a protest at the next meeting of the council at the Townhall in Enniskillen on the evening of Tuesday 6th May.

An influential "Gender Critical" activist was recently convicted of years of child abuse, including sexual and violent abuse, and calling children slurs for trans people

Hello #HR professionals. Any thoughts on this "briefing" from @cipd.bsky.social? Seems to go way beyond last week's Supreme Court ruling.

It's contradictory throughout. Also states,"This ruling reaffirms sex-based rights."

The judgement absolutely does NOT do that.😟

Our action at the toilets was calm, quiet, and intended to highlight the increasing hostility trans people face when accessing basic public spaces. It lasted only a few minutes and did not disrupt anyone's access or safety. What followed, however, was a wave of online abuse and misinformation, amplified by individuals with massive platforms who continue to spread fear and discredit peaceful trans activism.
