I watched the MTV launch in 1981, and the channel was on my TV a lot during the ’80s. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Duran Duran, and Cyndi Lauper helped make music a visual medium. Michael Nesmith’s Elephant Parts was historic.

I saw Snoop Dogg trending on Bluesky and read some of the posts. They were a mix of shock that he wore an all-red outfit and accusations of him being a MAGA sellout. Then I thought, how funny it is that people hold Snoop Dogg to a higher standard than Clarence Thomas, a Supreme Court Justice.

No one I know is spending less this Christmas, most spending more just to match past years’ purchases. For some, holidays mean family or faith; for most, it’s pure consumerism, a cycle of rising costs and relentless buying. No empathy as the wealth transfer continues unabated and billionaires win.
