Just out in Social Networks w. @snannabell.bsky.social:

We illustrate the principle with a multiple correspondence analysis of 15 sociometric nominations (interpersonal relations, interest / aversion to collaborations in mathematics and physical education), foci-of-activity, individual attributes, and attribute combinations in eight school classes.

Apart from the relative meanings of nominations, we analyze the meanings of one-sided nominations for friendship and sympathy. Our analysis points to one-sided nominations marking weaker ties than reciprocated ones, rather than asymmetric interest among class mates.

The Pentagon has abruptly scrapped its entire social science research program.
The decision “is short-sighted and harmful to U.S. national security,” @jaylyall.bsky.social told me. It “suggests they don’t care about better understanding threats the U.S. faces,” says @busbyj2.bsky.social.

This @natrevpsych.bsky.social paper on self-control by @wilhelmhofmann.bsky.social is one of the papers that had the biggest impact on my thinking this year. Will's call for going beyond the individual level (e.g., willpower) & considering environmental/societal factors is critically important.
Going beyond the individual level in self-control research - Nature Reviews Psychology
Self-control is traditionally viewed as an individual-level struggle, reflecting prevailing notions of individual autonomy and personal responsibility. In this Perspective, Hofmann calls for...

This weekend, I went for a trail run with friends @sgerwann.bsky.social. I wasn’t very fast, and the distance wasn’t very long compared to my friends. But it’s not always about being the best: Taking in the beauty of the trail, sharing these moments with friends, and much more (Kurz, 1977) matters.
