When I get to heaven, I wanna have a chat with the dudes who convinced all these people to build an entire new covenant theory of atonement off of one verse in Isaiah (53:10) that not one single New Testament author cites from a translation/tradition that no New Testament author was utilizing.

This conversation on black religion given the occasion of the new movie Sinners is precisely why I think J Kameron Carter’s book, “The Anarchy of Black Religion” is so vitally important for us today.

It’s that important.

Quick thought on the axiom, “christian before black.”

What if we didn’t imagine identity in hierarchical ways? When one follows Jesus they become more of themselves, not less. Your story is not lost or placed in competition with God and others.

DEI could never replace what reparations was supposed to provide for black folks. The inherent limitations of DEI in an anti black society is magnified when reparations have been denied for so long.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

We will be sustained in this administration not by segregation but by sharing. Not by self preservation but in shared suffering.

It seems fitting that we would prioritize the radical black tradition & within that the black church for how we followers of Jesus today should engage the kind of political system we’re in, instead of say “the early church.”

Over 50% of nonviolent movements to overthrow governments are successful within one year of their peak.

The key is to engage over 3.5% of the country, a cross-section of society—clergy, kids, grandmas, teachers) using DIVERSE & CREATIVE tactics, with women in leadership.

We can do this.

A lot of people are getting hip to the work of Octavia Butler and how she predicted this moment so long ago. Too bad they weren’t paying attention womanists and Black feminists who’ve been talking about this for a long time. You may want to pay attention now.

Remember, today especially, that MLK said America suffers not just from "the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people." Keep the faith. Keep up the fight.
