Aging millennial dad living in Kelowna, BC. I like politics, sports, and history stuff.
My Zohran in the Oval take: Trump knows a hell of a lot more about spotting a populist political talent than Democratic Party “leadership” who still refuse to acknowledge him, and he can’t help but try to glom on a bit. Sorta like when he would say nice stuff about Bernie to go after Hillary.

All the good boys in 1949 were named Rex.

Rex, a 4-year-old Labrador mix owned by Robert Loftus (not pictured) of Minneapolis, shows off for the neighbors each day by running up and down a ladder that some house painters left behind.

Didn’t realize you could just knock off the Yankees in the playoffs like this. Someone should tell the Twins.

The Newfoundland PCs have enough money to run a nationwide ad during a Bluejays playoff game?!?! Not exactly targeted spending.

God bless Conor McDavid. There are endless examples of Canadian players who just want to take the tax break and play with no media scrutiny in Vegas or Florida and he leaves money on the table to stay in EDMONTON (no offense Edmonton).

American political discourse is so pathetic & performative across the spectrum. An assassination happens and all anyone wants to do is berate each other about insufficient or overly effusive condolences offered. I guess when a society can’t solve a single real problem this is what you’re left with.

Hard to tell what is going on with Canada-US trade negotiations, but dairy cannot be the hill Canada dies on. I’m not enthusiastic about eating cheese from Wisconsin, but we can’t be protecting dairy farmers from competition at the expense of other way more economically significant industries.

It took the great state of Minnesota some time to get going in our U.S. Open Cup, but when the Division II Thunder rolled in 2005 they did so with devastating effect.

With the passing of John “Bye-BYE” McLaughlin, Gwen Iffil, and Bill Moyers, as well as the Me too cancellations of Charlie Rose and Tavis Smiley my teenage and collegiate years watching public affairs programming on PBS feel further away than ever😢

The political talent of Mamdani is off the charts. Progressive candidates often sound like they’re using academic jargon or checking boxes on various DSA causes, but this guy connects with authenticity. He hammers the economic message and finds the right balance on culture issues without pandering.

In San Antonio today, plainclothes ICE officers (not masked this time) arrested, handcuffed, and zip-tied a family of five (yes, ALL of them, including the little children) coming out of their immigration court hearing — which ICE had just had dismissed.

What is happening in Gaza will be a permanent stain on the world's collective conscience.

History will never forget how our government was complicit in enabling and sustaining this ongoing humanitarian disaster.

Canada could give smaller parties a fair chance and still keep the important benefits of regional representation in a first past post system if we adopted ranked choice. See example from Australia where the right can’t form government by racking up a bunch of 35% wins.

In a country awash with boomer men named Gord, the only Gord elected to parliament last night was an NDPer. This should be enough to secure the NDP official party status.
