"Half the harm that is done in this world
is due to people who want to feel important.
They don't mean to do harm,
but the harm does not interest them.
Or they do not see it, or they justify it
because they are absorbed in the endless struggle
to think well of themselves."

Doesn't Congress need to appropriate funds raised by the United States?
Trump: "We're gonna take some of that tariff money that we've made, we're gonna give it to our farmers who for a little while are going to be hurt until the tariffs kick in to their benefit."

'Rapture' comes from the Latin 'rapere' meaning "to seize and carry off."

'Raptor' also comes from 'rapere.'

We hope neither carries you off today.

The Red Guard wants universities to include correct dogma dogma in their research.

Our higher ed system is a beacon for the world and a key to national scientific advancement - they're attacking it with Maoist zeal.
Linda McMahon: "Universities should continue to be able to do research as long as they're abiding by the laws and in sync, I think, with the administration and what the administration is trying to accomplish."

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

CJ Robert is concerned about rule of law & partially blames schools "... for shortchanging civics education and leaving students with little understanding of the structure of U.S. government or the role of the courts."

SCOTUS invented presidential immunity which Trump exploits b/c of schools. ✔️

This is flat wrong. @ericlipton.nytimes.com is conflating bribery with corruption. Corruption is a much wider concept that involves unethical behavior, abuse of power, etc. Bribery involves a specific action as a result of some benefit. Trump's memecoin and dinner are prima facie corrupt behavior.
Corruption requires explict quid pro quo. It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.

As rumors (but no evidence) of tariff negotiations leak never forget this cycle:

1. Creates crisis unnecessarily
2. "Solves" self-inflicted crisis
3. Crows about solution to self-inflicted crisis as a win, no matter how unimpressive

Starting to think that we should sort out a general agreement on trade and tariffs, perhaps housed under some sort of world trade organization. Let's keep the region strong with some kind of of north american free trade agreement. Perhaps a trans pacific partnership could soften China's influence.

REMINDER: we’re at Step 3 in the Trump Market Fraud & Self-Enrichment Scheme:

Step 1: Short the market
Step 2: Announce tariffs
Step 3: Market crashes
Step 4: Buy on the dip
Step 5: Extort favours from countries
Step 6: Scrap tariffs
Step 7: Market rises
Step 8: Sell on the rise, bank the profits.

April 9, 2025 at 5:45 PM
Brooke Rollins: America's prosperity ended about 100 years ago at the dawn of the progressive era.

Obviously, it's been absolute shit for the USA since 1925. The gaslighting here is strong.
Brooke Rollins: "We went from a frontier republic of the late 1700s to the world's greatest economic power, until about 100 years ago at the dawn of the progressive era when that ended."
