Refugee from the other place.

Mon-Fri: managing risk and Excel-whispering
Sat-Sun: buying as many records as I can carry on a motorbike
Everyday: drinking tea, reading books
I had a violin delivered today (don't ask!) and it came in a box big enough that I could have fit into it myself, padded with about 20 metres of scrunched up brown paper.

Is the company called Amazon because that it how many trees they use per year?

Probably the last sunny day this month so took a spin out to Kent to visit the Tunbridge Wells Record Exchange, which is always a delight to visit.

Came home with some 70s and 80s vinyl of course.

Starting to think that car driving tests should be like bike tests - have a mod 1 in a secure compound to prove basic competence in control before going out onto the road.

Obviously to include parallel parking.

I do not miss commuting!
This was part of my daily routine for years.
Current state of play at Waterloo station

If you look at the wikipedia page for Little Saint James (AKA Epstein Island) and scroll down to the bottom, there is only one item in the list of "See Also" references...

2 power outages in the last 30 minutes. Only short, but when the power comes back all sorts of devices and lights come on - the downside of having lots of things powered by USB or connected to wifi.
Also the clock radio with a battery backup turns ON when the power goes!
Its gonna be a long night!

Tonight I was listening to Joachim Witt's 'Edelweiss' LP that I picked up at the excellent Kontrapunkt shop in Cologne.

It sounds like Talking Heads doing Motorik and reminds me how much we lose out by ignoring non-English language records.

Because I once met Mandelson when he visited my workplace (he was a minister and I was a TU rep), I realise that I am one degree of separation from Trump, Epstein and Andrew M-W.

Overall impression of Mandy BTW was... taller than expected and very soft hands.

This arrived from @ianwaites.bsky.social the other day.

A very slim volume, but arrived almost immediately with a postcard that will make a nice bookmark.
Having grown up in one new town and now living in another I am 99% certain I will be ordering part 2 as soon as I finish it.

Looked like being the only dry day for the next couple of weeks, so took the bike out for a spin to Dorking via the A24, and came home with some vinyl.

Only 25% from the 1970s this time!

Hmm. Two-nil up at half time away from home so I'm getting a touch of deja vu and braced for a three-two defeat.

Cars parked in the Northbound one-way road, means that traffic will have to use the Southbound cycle lane.

Pathetic cycling provision in Crawley High Street.

Is Trump spewing out soundbites while standing in a plane doorway his version of the famous Harry Redknapp Land Rover window interviews?

I see West Ham managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again today.

I really think we should consider pulling out of the World Cup. Not for political reasons but just for the safety of teams and supporters.

That new Megadeth album is pretty good. If it really is their last then they are really going out with a bang!

So. @spizzenergi.bsky.social on Radio 6 this afternoon?

The second time in a few months that Spizz has been on the Craig Charles show I think? Should be fun anyway.

An hour spent listening to Heavy Horses while reading a Slow Horses book, is an hour well-spent. Certainly a good way to end the weekend.

Went to see our new grandchild today, who had the good sense to get born in a hospital in a town with a record shop or two...

Came home with some vinyl goodies, mostly 1970s again, including some Italian prog.

West Ham need to stop scoring first. It has never ended well for us this season.
