Why should we switch 2p of tax from National Insurance to Income Tax? ⤵️

Income Tax raises more money and spreads the burden more fairly. The switch would raise £6 billion, and leave the vast majority of payslips unaffected.

There are lots of reasons not to leave ECHR. But apart from anything else, it just doesn't solve the problem the Tories/Reform think it does.

E.g. the Supreme Court judgment re Rwanda being unsafe explicitly said it was not based on ECHR.

The world's largest sand battery just launched in Finland!

Developed by Polar Night Energy, this is a massive step for clean energy. It stores 100 MWh of thermal energy in sand, providing cost-effective alternative to LI batteries for long-term heat storage.

Funny they don't seem so bothered by Jenrick's three homes (including a grade 1 listed manor) plus his forth home in his constituency rented at taxpayer expense.

Wonder why.
Daily Telegraph today refers to A Rayner’s property “empire”. Whatever you think of her housing arrangements, I don’t think constituency house (bought for 375k in 2016), house in Hove, plus use of ministerial flat in London is an “empire”. Duke of Westminster wont fear a rival!

63% of people think net migration rose in the last 12 months
8% of people think it fell

Yet it fell by 400,000 in 2024 vs 2023
[It is falling further in 2025]

Public service broadcasters are doing a core part of their job on this topic badly if that 8% is not closer to 30% at least

Good on the Mirror for having the bravery to strike out against this bullshit
🚨An important reminder of the trauma faced by asylum seekers.

Not just in fleeing persecution abroad.

Not just in the perilous and desperate journey to these shores.

But by the hatred and vitriol put on them by the right wing in this country for callous political gain.

Migrants can't answer back.

They have no voice.

So they make the perfect scapegoat for the pent-up rage of the angry, self-loathing far right who can unite around this issue.

In addition it gives the media something to write about in the long summer recess.

That is what is really going on here.

I really get the national outrage over the felling of the sycamore tree, but 4 years in prison seems v expensive and unlikely to address their behaviour. Surely several years of community service planting trees and public realm work and educating them would be a better outcome
