Extremely positive news about my #MSCA application. Can't wait to start my project FlexyRhythm at @bcbl.bsky.social with @nicolaml.bsky.social (and secondment at @dondersinst.bsky.social with @vipiai.bsky.social). So happy to have the chance to work with such wonderful people!
Last lab pic taken a couple of days ago. Soon many of us will be gradually leaving for new destinations. After 3 years as a PhD student and 5 as a postdoc, I have now left the Department of Developmental Psychology and Socialization at the University of Padova and will soon begin a new adventure...

Thank you! Glad it was of interest, hopefully also across subfields, and hope it may spark new ideas to investigate 😊

🧠 Newly out: Paper-with-a-way-too-long-name-for-social-media! How does the brain turn words into sentences? We tracked words in participants' brains while they produced sentences, and found some unexpectedly neat patterns. 🧵1/9

Happy to have been selected among the winners of the @gorillapsych.bsky.social Language & Linguistics Research Grant! I will implement an online study on predictive speech comprehension/production and adverse listening conditions in deaf people with cochlear implant 🦻🗣️

Yesterday I presented EEG time-frequency and ERP data on predictive processing during audiovisual speech comprehension in deaf cochlear implant users at the XVII International Symposium of Psycholinguistics in Barcelona

Next week I'll talk @Psicostat about our recent experience in publishing a commentary as early career researchers. Aim: foster a collective discussion on how best to approach this by ensuring fair albeit solid criticism of published science

Data without discussion is dead data 🧐 @simonegastaldon.bsky.social & I think #LinguisticAlignment needs #OpenScience & #multiverse debate!

🔥 Our re-analysis goes beyond the #pvalue to #collectively build solid #theory & valid #measurement in #cognitive #sciences

Further analyses revealed that the Category alignment effect emerged primarily in a subset of stimuli and in specific semantic categories, highlighting the limited generalizability of the effect originally reported.
February 28, 2025 at 8:39 PM
The commentary shows that aligning in the Category condition is associated with longer RTs and greater variability compared to using basic labels in the Basic condition, suggesting an effortful and strategic rather than an automatic mechanism.
February 28, 2025 at 8:38 PM
In the original paper, the authors provide evidence for automatic conceptual alignment, i.e., early alignment of participants’ behavior with the naming choices of the robot (using category labels instead of basic ones in the Category condition).
February 28, 2025 at 8:38 PM
The paper provides theoretical and methodological contributions to the study of linguistic alignment in a joint picture naming with a social robot, by analyzing response times of an openly available dataset (Cirillo et al., 2022).
February 28, 2025 at 8:38 PM
This commentary provides: 1) complementary multiverse analyses improving data interpretation, 2) practical suggestions for future experiments, 3) reflections on the importance of Open Science practices, especially for early career researchers.

The speakers are: Irene Arrieta-Sagredo (Uni Paris Cité, France), Antonio Criscuolo (Maastricht Uni, The Netherlands), Matteo Maran (Donders Centre for Cognition, Radboud Uni, The Netherlands), Andria Pelentritou (Uni of Lausanne, Switzerland) & Giorgio Piazza (Uni of Padova, Italy).

The symposium will bring together early career researchers to discuss how external (others') and internal (one's own) body signals may modulate speech and auditory processing, trying to foster an integrated perspective.
February 17, 2025 at 3:39 PM
My symposium proposal titled "The Body Whispering To The Ear: How Self And Others' Bodily Signals Affect Auditory And Speech Processing" has been accepted for the XV International Conference on Cognitive Neuroscience (ICON 2025), to be held in Porto in September!

🚨📝New preprint‼️

In this fMRI study (N=37) we compare the production and comprehension of words, and observe that the same phoneme-specific sensorimotor networks are activated when speaking and listening to language!

Congruent brain signatures specific to phonology in fronto-temporal cortex during language production and understanding.
In this fMRI study we investigated whether language production and understanding recruit the same phoneme-specific networks. We did so by comparing the brain responses to different phoneme categories ...
