Very sad news today that HKPORI is effectively winding down due to ongoing censorship and intimidation. Another nail in the coffin of freedom of expression in Hong Kong.

This is just such a funny quirk on this site. Tons of people are using AI. The genie is out of the bottle and it's not going anywhere
lots of people, especially on here, are fastened onto the idea that it's just AI bro marketing or whatever to consider it a fixture of the information landscape. it's easy to think that when everyone in your circles is an ethical AI refuser. but I'm afraid it really has been mass adopted.

"Your guilty conscience may force you to vote Democratic, but deep down inside, you secretly long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule you like a king!"

Fantastic write-up from James unpacking the shifting voting patterns of archetypal American voter blocs
I use @electionstudies.bsky.social data from 1972 to model how characters in The Simpsons would have voted in presidential elections

It turns out to be very revealing about how the demographic coalitions of the Democratic and Republican parties have completely rearranged themselves...

This week I crossed a big milestone. I turned 1 billion seconds old.

To help put into context the difference between a million and a billion, I turned one million seconds old at the tender age of 12 days old in May 1994. I am now nearly 32!

@discogsofficial.bsky.social *please* can you provide the option to revert back to the 'classic' marketplace user interface. The new version is very difficult and cumbersome to use, and replaces useful information for with large artwork thumbnails. Totally unusable in its updated format. Thanks

London Centric is such an impressive outfit, real investigative journalism about issues that impact and matter to its audience. Other much larger organisations could learn a thing or two, and it is more than worth subscribing to. This is a brilliant story, and action vs these crooks is long overdue.
He's one of Britain's richest men. So why does Asif Aziz's property company keep leasing London gift shops to overseas students based in abandoned offices or flytipped car parks — before vanishing without paying millions of pounds in taxes? www.londoncentric.media/p/asf-aziz-l...

It is revealing to look at the data from this release and focus on these findings as a -ve, as opposed to:

- The stillbirth rate in the most deprived neighbourhoods being 92% higher than the least
- The stillbirth rate among Black African mothers being 84% higher than among White British mothers

The state of mobile data/wifi connectivity on the UK's trains is woeful and pathetically inadequate. Just completely wasted, unproductive hours out of everyone's day. The people furrowing their brows and pretending to tap away on Outlook do make me laugh though

What a pointless article, pitching the actual experience of an XL bully mauling against the delusional beliefs of an owner who thinks that it's all down to "how it is brought up and trained".

A lot of the political content is bad but really what broke Twitter/X for me was the extent to which it began pushing endless videos of violence at me... just people getting punched, assaulted, run over, fighting... I like to think I'm fairly mentally resilient but constant exposure altered my mood.
