Well, this ended up being much longer than I thought. But Bethany is the only one of my mages who has ever had any faith in the Circle, so I guess it makes sense that her relationship to it needs a little more space.

On Circles of Mages Bethany was never really opposed to Circles as such. She certainly did not want to be put in one, except toward the end, when no amount of running seemed to ever be enough. It was enough she feared herself. She didn't want to fear turning every corner anymore. And it is true, she had an easy time of it in the Gallows compared to the others — thanks to Evie's favors, bribes and extortion, she learned later — but nothing made her any less wary of her powers and those of other mages. Certainly not Anders. Not even dear Merrill, whose lack of fear has always felt more like recklessness to her. Not... what happened. It was only when Evie sent her to lay low in Rivain with Isabela that she saw a glimpse of magic without the fear, and she spent a good portion of her short stay with the Seers and the Wise Women, learning how the community looked after one another. Until a handsome Antivan floated ashore. The Chantry and its Templars were an obvious terror on mages and little more, but only after Rivain did she come to believe that mages could be their own guardians. Circles of only mages, and Circles of Circles so that no one Circle could stray in its isolation. The Colleges, they ended up calling themselves. For learning, not imprisonment. And she joined happily, not only to learn but to teach. She loved to teach. The youngest, especially, but accomplished mages too. They were building the strength to manage the fear. It was a year later that she met a mage so sure, so natural, so sovereign in her power that Bethany for the first time felt like it might be possible to truly live without the fear. Well, the second, if you counted dragons. And The Lady Inquisitor was just as unsettling as the dragon-woman claiming to be Mythal had been. Until you got to know her, anyway. Bethany ended up making it a tradition to have Eyry visit with her youngest Apprentices toward the end of their first year. To show them what was possible.

GM Tip: Have a newbie player? Give them a pre-generated character first session and pair them with an experienced player. Let them learn by playing, not by reading. They can make their own character once they understand the game.

Art shows my Rook Cora (an elven woman with dark, wavy hair) at different stages of her life. At the very beginning, she's a little girl in an orange dress with a black cat after is the period of slavery. she wore rags and looked exhausted, with a wound on her face. After she had freedom, she became noticeably taller, weared a white tunic and let her hair grow out. And the version during the events of the game where she holds Solas's dagger (she dresses more openly (her white blouse is unbuttoned), she has a scarf tied around her waist, and she wears jewelry)
