Hi all 👋, I'm energy analyst currently with Energy Exemplar (PLEXOS software).

My work is mainly data analysis, modelling, and simulation of energy systems (power, gas, hydrogen, and financial), and insights from it.

By education, I'm masters in ChemE with specialization in energy engineering.

My technical climate policy advising advice:

What are the skills you should try to graduate with?

-Advanced statistics & uncertainty analysis

-Scientific computing & data science with Python

-Mapping with GIS

-Technoeconomic analysis

-Life cycle & equity assessment

-Report writing & comms 🔌💡
See also: climate science/Matlab

It's enormously useful for certain use cases, but if you want students to have flexible options leaving school, they should be training in Python or R (or comparable).
Sitting on the hiring side, I think students already responded to the demand side. I have not seen a single candidate only knowing Stata well.

Probably some selection bias, but students already tech-ed up before the profession was willing to do so.

Ironically, I would take more than triple time to write something in my native language (Marathi) than in English.

That's coz even though my first language is Marathi, English is first I learned to write in, and I had entire education in English medium.
Non-native English speakers need 50% more time to write a paper

When they do, they face a 2.5 times higher chance of being rejected because of language

Renewables capacity additions in India from FY2020 - FY 2026 (projected).
Solar makes up the vast majority with 22 GW projected for 2025 and 27.5 GW for 2026.
Analysis suggests 50 GW of energy storage is needed by 2030 to integrate the increasing share of RE. 🔌💡

This illustration of energy trilemma is pretty good. 🔌💡

It's similar to a food triangle. There are three aspects for food: Healthy, Tasty, Cheap. You can't have all three at same time.
BUT... the biggest challenge is to balance three distinct policy goals:

💶 Finance (Economics): What is the impact on the bottom line?
🌳 Environment (Climate): What is the impact on the environment?
🇺🇳 Politics (Energy Security): What is the impact on national security?

India's #nuclear programme is really underrated and ingenious.

This three stage nuclear program uses closed cycle and Th in end, which India has one of highest reserves of, to ensure abundance of clean and secure energy. Right now 2nd stage just started. 🔌💡

Mainly, optimisation and planning of power and gas systems and markets.

Initial observations of Bluesky

- Interface is really good, and has more tools than twitter for curation of information

- Lack of bookmark feature

- My feeds are already focused on energy without much efforts

- For some reason, very few Indians here, most people from US/Europe

India just crossed the 200 GW mark for installed clean energy, and installations are accelerating - renewables accounted for 99% of all new capacity installed between June and September 2024, while, coal only made up 1% of all installed capacity. 🔌💡
