Back in 2019, I published this prose poem by Roger W. Hecht in The Piltdown Review, sadly still relevant today. dogb.us/toetag
Donald Trump’s Toe Tag
Poem by Roger W. Hecht. Donald Trump's toe tag will be the most glorious toe tag. It will have class like you've never seen before.

My memoir The Accidental Terrorist: Confessions of a Reluctant Missionary came out ten years ago today. To observe this milestone, I’ve reposted something I wrote back in 2001, when I thought I was nearly done with the book but was only getting started. Plus, the ebook is on sale! dogb.us/milestones
A Journey of a Thousand Milestones
It was ten years ago today that my memoir, The Accidental Terrorist, first appeared in print. This reminiscence from 2001 celebrates an end to the project that was really just a first step.

Amen.
I wrote about why the regrettable conclusions of Ezra Klein pissed me off so badly in the last couple weeks.

On moral cowardice in an era that calls for clarity, and a popular political instinct to try to solve divisions of abuse by ignoring causes. www.the-reframe.com/eventually-y...

Interesting that we don’t hear the right talking about how the shooting must have been a mental health incident.

Rank journalistic malpractice.
This is a straight "go out of business" moment for the New York Post.

And no, you can't put me on a "violence encouragement" list for saying that.

Sure, let’s never forget 9/11. But can we also never forget that women are dying in this country for lack of abortion care, and that a murderous mob tried to attack Congress, and that climate disasters are worsening and causing ever more destruction and death…

to my mind the woman who dies of sepsis because of antiabortion laws, or the person who dies because they can't afford insulin -- these are just as much victims of political violence as the man shot through the throat while making a racist speech

I make a decent income *and* I live in a rent-stabilized apartment in Manhattan. It’s one reason I can afford this city. I suppose Cuomo and Adams would tell me to move out too.

I lived in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood for four months in 1995. I'd like to check out the old building when I visit Seattle next month, but I'm finding it extremely difficult to find any record of what the exact address was. (I apparently had a post office box while I was there. Huh.)

This is the third come-on I’ve received in the past week from folks using generative AI to try to sell me PR services. What is most offensive is that the technology used to generate this praise was built on the theft of the very text under discussion. Writers, are you getting emails like this too?
July 22, 2025 at 12:55 PM
I’ve received two different emails in the past week or so from folks with unlikely names, each praising a different one of my books to the skies. I’m convinced that the emails were AI-generated, and the praise doesn’t really land anyway because the senders are trying to sell PR and SEO services.

I wouldn't want to be the gas pedal on the car Andrew Cuomo drives back to his home not in New York City tonight.

Andrew Cuomo says that only he can protect New York City from Trump. That strongman posture is straight out of Trump’s playbook.

Andrew Cuomo won’t pronounce Mamdani’s name correctly. That racist practice is straight out of Trump’s playlist.

Sometimes I think, “Hey, I should write about how I grew my business!” Then I remind myself not to be a prat. I still might do it, but it would mostly be a post about blind luck.

However, I will share this series of posts about how to lose $20,000 on a book. That’s quite replicable. dogb.us/annals1
