Again, what if we just didn't buy or talk about the shiny new game from the dog shit trillion dollar publisher that's trying to drive the industry into the ground while also actively supporting a genocide.
That would be super cool.

Well…I finished my first game of 2026.

New Years is just another day, and I tried to convince my wife that we should just go to sleep at a normal time... but she said "No, you can sleep in tomorrow", so of course I'm awake @ 5:30am.

I'm near the end of Indy and the Great Circle, and aside from complaints about combat (and the publisher), it's better pretty great.
Makes me miss the PS360, when AAA games were more focused, linear experiences that lasted 12-16hrs.
Again...don't buy it new. But if you can buy used, I recommend it.

I don't know if I have any real resolutions or plans for 2026.
There's certain video game related things I'm going to cut back on (no double dipping, or remasters/remakes). I'd like to get back to reading more.
At this point in my life, I'm comfortable with who I am. I don't need some grand plan.

I'm an idiot with a PS5 Pro, and it's still a better value prop than PC HW right now
a switch 2 is still $450 USD. a digital PS5 is still $400 USD. buying a console right now is the safest choice you can make if you wanna play games

love my computer but in 2026 it's a fool's errand to invest in it from scratch

My final hot take of the 2025 is that this was a pretty abysmal year for games.

The best games were over-hyped, and real critiques were impossible, because fans made these games their entire personality.
Industry is showing very clear signs of collapse.
Hardware will never be affordable again.

To follow up, and expand on this hot take;

I think Indy acts as a case study as to why melee combat in first person games doesn't work, doesn't feel good, and results in combat that feels too "game-y".
Clair Obscur.
Indiana Jones and The Great Circle.
Outer Worlds 2.
Silent Hill F.
All games where I think combat is one of, if not the worst, part of the game.

Anyways...
I'm a little over half way through both Frieren (which my son seems to like), and Hell's Paradise (which I'm not letting him watch).

I'm trying to find out if the new Trigun was watchable.

And I'm a couple episodes behind in Digimon.
Trying to binge anime before their new seasons start in Jan.
This is something I usually don’t do

This game seems heavily inspired by Expedition 33. I should check it out.

I refuse to believe that ChatGPT and Google Gemini are the top Apps on the iOS market in Canada... and if they are, we're on the verge of a mass extinction event.

The Switch 2 patch for Stardew Valley has reminded me that I do not like Stardew Valley.
December 29, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Clair Obscur is going to be the new Dark Souls of games.

Friendly reminder that the only ethical way to consume MSFT published games is either pre-owned, or piracy. Ideally, if you're buying used, try and support the smaller shops rather than Gamestop/EBGames for 2x moral superiority points (this is what I do).
December 29, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Anyways.
Here's my GotY list, I guess;

Baby Steps
Dispatch
Ball x Pit
Fantasy Life i
Hades 2
Monster Train 2
DK Bananza
ShapeHero Factory
Lumines Arise
Roottrees Are Dead

The most discouraging part of the Switch 2 has been the Nintendo certification process for patches/etc.

At a point where I just don't think I'm going to buy anything other than 1st party stuff on the HW, because it takes too long to fix if there's an issue.

Sometimes you have to let people be wrong on the internet.

Anyways...
I'm gonna try and take a break from this place.

I think there's too much false advocacy from self proclaimed progressives and legions of people who value their own personal comfort over taking a meaningful stance on anything.

I'm not perfect, but I'm not that.
I'm tired.

It's a good time to remind people that the jobs most easily replaced by AI are the ones held by the people pushing the technology w/o consulting people who do actual work.

The biggest issue with the Naughty Dog and Larian discourse(s) is that it will change nothing.
The press will continue to gush over their games and studios, and consumers will continue to consume. Mistreatment of workers is everywhere and replacement of talent for GenAI is inevitable.
December 18, 2025 at 8:55 PM
I'm excited for Naughty Dog to crunch endlessly, to make another game that's twice as long as it should have been, with a story that feels like a Grade 9 creative writing assignment.
