In the middle of an unassuming new-build housing estate in Prestonpans, just outside Edinburgh, you can find this imposing statue. The work of Andy Scott’s, who also designed the Kelpies, it is a memorial to the 81 men and women who, throughout the 17thC, were executed in the town for witchcraft.

No sudden rupture is now required for the far right to take power in this country. For what we're seeing is a steady normalisation of extremists by the Conservative and Labour Parties, BBC, Telegraph, Mail and others. A shift once considered unthinkable beings to look acceptable, even inevitable.🧵

The occupation and apartheid system must be ended, and justice must be delivered - anything less while Palestinians continue to be slaughtered by Israeli forces in an ongoing genocide is just empty words.

Recognition is no doubt significant but it will be a hollow gesture if the UK does not also seek to end Israel's genocide, illegal occupation, and system of apartheid against the Palestinian people.

Presumably we can expect a name change soon at the Beeb - the Reform UK Propaganda Channel (RUKPC)
For 56 minutes Sky News and BBC News interrupted everything else and carried a Reform UK feed live, uninterrupted, unchallenged. The stream spluttered, froze, pixelated - dozens of times - still they stuck with it. FOR ONE HOUR.

This is an editorial choice. No other party gets this coverage. ~AA

Worth noting Labour bringing back Sure Start should be getting more headlines.

A brilliant Blair-era policy scrapped by successive govts. It gave kids the best start in life, backed by evidence, and its removal hit families hard. Good to see it return. Credit where it’s due.
