Minimum wage increases since 2015 have all but ended ‘low’ pay.

In 2011, 21% of workers were low paid – defined as hourly pay below two-thirds of the overall median. By April 2024 3.4% of employees were low paid on this measure.

GERS figures are out! Scotland's net fiscal balance in 2024-25 was estimated to be nearly -12% of GDP, which is about 2% of GDP higher than in 2023-24. The largest driver of this is higher devolved spending - our analysis and reaction to the Scottish Government's statements below:

4/ 3rd sector gets many grants to help tackle child poverty, but tracking spend is difficult.

We’ve had to dig through audited accounts from the charities themselves to find out what they were actually paid. SG should routinely publish confirmed outturns for these grants.

New analysis with @jrf-uk.bsky.social looked at the data on outturn (confirmed) expenditure. Short answer: only a partial picture is possible.
