PhD candidate. 🧠 injury. AuDHD. disability advocate. whisky enthusiast. tea aficionado. world traveler. typos abound.
Could not have reached this milestone without the care and support of @janmcarthur.bsky.social over the years.

Many thanks to examiners @amhwork.bsky.social and @slewth.bsky.social for great conversation, challenging my thinking, & encouraging consideration of new avenues for future exploration.
Very many congratulations to Sheelagh Semper who successfully defended her thesis on 28/3. She completed a #PhDinTEL and was supervised by @janmcarthur.bsky.social. While I like to think I am just as capable at my chosen profession as I was previously, I am very slow compared to "old me." Lately, this translates to working a lot of unpaid OT to keep up. I really don't know how to fix this without losing my career & risking sliding from doing OK into poverty.

The Michael Jordan Foundation is matching donations for this #DonorsChoose fundraiser today. Help bring the March series (John Lewis' memoir in graphic form) to high school history students in an SC school. Every penny matched, doubling your impact.

Using comics to teach history? Accessible and meaningful resources can make a huge difference to students. Help get these books into student hands by supporting my friend's #donorschoose project.

Help me give my students copies of John Lewis' MARCH to deepen understanding of the fight for Civil Rights. In my IB US History and History of the Americas classes, we cover the important topic...

Our climate station outside tells me its 19C in the backyard while I sit here freezing away in my home office.

Why does no one warn you about getting chills and cold flashes as part of peri-menopause? I feel like I've been cold for years and will never be warm again.

Nothing quite like the gov't with a dedicated red tape reduction dept contemplating bills that add red tape to continue their games of "not ready to play nice" with municipalities or the feds.

Anyone else tired of being a citizen of a province that continually prioritizes its constituents last?

The music of childhood is magic. Not the music you find on your own as you grow, but the music your parents listened to during all those long drives to visit friends or family. The 26 hrs on the road to Toronto as you head to catch a flight across the pond. And you all sang along in the night.

Forgot how exhausting dealing with filing and sorting paperwork in doom pukes can be. Easier to nuke them from orbit than to sift through for tax receipts.

Completely forgot it's Family day weekend, which means I get an extra day to write uninterrupted. Now, if only the words I am writing were good ones. The first few chapters flowed well, but these last two are a disaster at the moment. Storytelling through qualitative data hurts my head at moment.

Argh! If I am paying you a silly amount of $ to dev a course because my team is at max capacity, & my SMEs have taken the time to provide specific feedback in writing & in meetings, it is not too much to expect those requested changes to be incoporated into the revised docs. No edits, no acceptance!

Special Olympics is a wonderful organization that brings sport, fun & community into the lives of disabled individuals. At our local SO's annual bowl-a-thon fundraiser my sister will be bowling her heart out to support the program that brings her joy.

(1/3) A few days ago I read a man's response in a thread re: wanting to break away from concepts embedded in toxic masculinity, but not having many public figure male role models available to demonstrate the way. His comment has been gnawing away at me ever since. What makes a good man?

Have spent the last few weeks reworking the first 4 chapters of my research. Feeling pretty good about them and starting to see the potential for a viva this year. Assuming I can get the rest of the chapters in order. The last two are looking pretty messy at the moment.

I am ever so thankful that there are truly great people in the CAF. While hubs and his co-workers have long retired, they all still look out for each other.

Translation - furnace fan gave up the ghost and hubs called in a favour. HVAC tech on way. Good thing. It's down to 12.5C in here now.

Of all the holiday traditions I miss, singing completely unrelated Scottish & Irish folk songs while driving to another ex-pats house for our Christmas dinner is one of the ones that brings me the most joy.

That and first footing. Fabulous way to pass on the evil that is fruit cake.

Vet's office sent a beautiful card with Zoe's paw prints inked on it. They've been on this journey with us for 20 years and 5 fury members of our household and every time they've found some beautiful way to honour the kidless.
