It was good to be at this well attended @environmentappg.bsky.social @islamicrelief.bsky.social meeting this evening. Muslim & other faith communities have such an important part to play in campaigning against climate change & for climate justice.

Weaning ourselves off gas is the only way to reduce energy bills long term. Cutting support for this is exactly the ‘sticking-plaster politics’ Labour promised to end, says CEO of Electrify Britain Camilla Born

I really enjoyed talking to @ginasue.bsky.social about AI's promise, but also its huge environmental cost & its tendency to exacerbate existing power imbalances. Tech giants always say tech is good, of course, but we need to raise questions. Do have a listen.

New briefing | With the deficit anywhere between £30-£50bn, tax rises look inevitable in the Autumn Budget.

But the chancellor doesn't have to choose between fiscal responsibility and growth.

We outline how fair tax reforms, clean growth investment and energy bill support can deliver both ⤵️
Budget 2025: focus on fairness and growth, not tax rises >> Green Alliance briefing
In this briefing, we outline how the chancellor can navigate tight public finances in the autumn budget by focusing on fair tax reforms that remove harmful subsidies, accelerating clean growth investment and providing targeted help with high energy bills.

The government could slash up to £178 from typical household energy bills by 2030 - with some renters able to save as much as £587 annually.

Our briefing shows how: move £2.3bn of levies off electricity bills, reduce system costs and raise rental efficiency standards to EPC C.

How to reduce household energy bills >> Green Alliance briefing
Energy bills remain £478 higher than in 2021, with almost nine million UK households in fuel poverty. But this doesn’t have to be the reality. By implementing targeted measures, the government could reduce a typical household bill by up to £178 per year by 2030, with some rental households seeing savings of up to £587 annually.

I was pleased to sign this letter. Energy bills need to come down - see @green-alliance.org.uk's new briefing - but cutting energy efficiency measures would be the epitome of "sticking plaster politics".

"There’s no denying that the scale of ambition will have to be big. But the prize is bigger. This is the way to futureproof the UK, increase energy security, cut and stabilise the cost of living and protect the country from the worst effects of climate change."
