📗 It’s been a long wait, but the government’s new environment plan is finally out.
✅ The good news? It’s an improvement on its predecessor, with more detail and accountability.
🚀 But more ambition is needed to drive systemic change, with united action across government.

It's probably not the big story tonight, but Richard Hughes understands the big impact that climate change is having on the economy. He and his colleagues at the OBR have engaged well with @green-alliance.org.uk & our climate adaptation task force. I'm sorry to see him go.

The critical minerals strategy, released to minimal fanfare at the weekend, was an opportunity to bolster economic resilience and show leadership when global resource competition is only set to intensify. Did it achieve it?

“The future of driving is clearly electric – but EVs driven on British roads don’t have to be built in Britain.”

Steve Coulter, head of economy, discusses why the UK risks losing out on jobs and investment without a robust plan for EV manufacturing in our latest blog.
Business as usual is not an option for the British car industry
A version of this post was first published by Business Green. The survival of the British car industry in recent decades is remarkable, and its economic contribution is significant. But the number of vehicles being produced fell by 27% in the year to September. So policy makers must make the most of a steadily growing domestic market for electric cars and put in place the industrial strategy needed to support the car industry into the future.

Energy bills are rising again – and urgent action is needed.

Today’s energy price cap increase, hitting households in the new year, is an unwelcome shock. Many are still struggling, and this will sting especially after forecasts predicted bills would fall.

It's terrible to see job losses in any industry but when the like of ExxonMobil or INEOS blame them on climate policies, we need to ask where they're coming from. In this blog, @liamkhardy.bsky.social unpicks what's really going on.
ExxonMobil’s decision to close Mossmorran ethylene plant, risking over 400 jobs, follows a depressingly similar pattern to the closure of the Grangemouth oil refinery less than a year ago🏭

In our latest blog, Liam Hardy @liamkhardy.bsky.social discusses why this is happening and who is to blame.

But the chancellor doesn't have to choose between fiscal responsibility and growth.

How to reduce household energy bills >> Green Alliance briefing
Energy bills remain £478 higher than in 2021, with almost nine million UK households in fuel poverty. But this doesn’t have to be the reality. By implementing targeted measures, the government could reduce a typical household bill by up to £178 per year by 2030, with some rental households seeing savings of up to £587 annually.
