Timeless message from @ncdominie.bsky.social on this day, the Feast of St Kentigern, Glasgow's own: "Have a blessed St Kentigern's Day, and try not to decapitate any sheep." 🙏😬🐦🌳🔔🐟

A fascinating paper trail for any Sou-siders...
A thread on how I bought an old book about a place I am also writing a book about, and became the unsuspecting owner of a rare 19th #Glasgow artefact, connected with one of Glasgow’s most picturesque bridges!

This bit of my exhibition highlights that no two takes on the same coat of arms are identical - in this case the painted glass in Govanhill Baths. It totally depends on what the viewer brings to the picture. Today I clocked the exact same one in the 'Old Govanhill' book! 🏊‍♂️🐦🌳🔔🐟

This is THE Christmas poem for me, in its pure joy and wish for better things in the new year. 'Trio' sums up Edwin Morgan's wild optimism, which many of us need now...

Monsters of the year
go blank, are scattered back,
can't bear this march of three...

When I began reading, I found scraps of paper pasted into the binding, full of asides and additional information in the thick, old-fashioned print of a typewriter.

A week later, I held the little blue book in my hands. Whatever guilt I felt for not supporting that local bookstore was short-lived: the eBay copy was signed by the author, and I liked the added nearness of knowing his handwriting along with his nearby address and burial place in Cathcart Cemetery.

Let’s set the scene: I recently found a copy of Alexander Gartshore’s 1938 book Cathcart Memories, but could not afford the £45 that the very wonderful bookstore was asking for. My bargain-hunting friend found a copy on eBay going for around £25. I offered about £17.

No 7 Moray Place, home of Mike & Hilary Stanger, fundamental to the founding of The Strathbungo Society in the early 1970s.
Numbers 7 and 8 Moray Place on the Southside of Glasgow. Built in 1859, they were designed by the one and only Alexander 'Greek' Thomson, and they are just pure class.

Greek Thomson had lived in Apsley Place in the Gorbals, once prosperous, but hit by the ravages of Cholera. He designed 1-10 Moray Place, then moved into No 1. It's curious that occupants of 6, 8, 9 & 11 were also from Apsley Place.
