Now that 2024 is officially over, here's my top 20 in music for the year, first year in a while I've paid enough attention to do such a big list: reddybrownobjects.wordpress.com/2025/01/01/1...
20 favorites from 2024
Here are 20 favorites (plus bonus picks) that I really loved from this year. My attention to music is admittedly pretty scattered and not especially deep in any one area these days, but these are s…

A summary of essential recordings from Kevin Drumm's later "Bandcamp" era, a handful of favorites selected from the noise/drone master's endless flow of exciting music.
kevin drumm | select recordings, 2011 – present
Calling Kevin Drumm "prolific" feels insufficient to sum up the sheer volume of material he's released over the years, mostly self-published, often at a clip of a dozen or more recordings every year. Drumm has always been an iconoclast, rarely content to sit in one place musically for long, and since 2011 that restless spirit has been embodied in his release methodologies as well.

A review of the subtle interactions of piano and location sounds on Áine O'Dwyer's fascinating triple cassette Turning In Space.
áine o’dwyer | turning in space (2023)
The London-based, Irish-born sound artist Áine O'Dwyer is very sensitive to the notion of place. Her music is always consciously embedded in its setting, in conversation with the environment around her. She has consistently explored interactions between sounds she produces, the contours of a particular location, and the external sounds that can be found there. Her two volumes of Music For Church Cleaners…

Everyone is doing Spotify Wrapped, but I’d love to see more alternative summaries. I don’t stream, I try to buy direct from artists and labels, and track listening through lastfm. Below is my top 10 most played artists for 2024 to date.

Since “Wah Gwan Delilah” exists, going “back to back” with lawsuits like this is still somehow only the second most embarrassing thing Drake has ever done.

Olivia Block's beautiful new album channels Krautrock and '70s prog but also feels like a clear development from her meticulous electroacoustic work.

No idea what this could sound like based on the extreme range these 2 musicians have, which makes this a very exciting announcement!
extremely excited to announce this new radical triple CD project has been added to the queue, for release in fall 2025:

Choi Joonyong and Devin DiSanto confound narrative expectations while noisily dismantling a piano.

Like so many other things in this world, absolutely disgraceful. A system wholly designed to extract mass amounts of money while treating the actual art, and the people who make it, as fully disposable. Buy music on Bandcamp and other digital sellers!
Meanwhile every stream under 1k per song gets an artist 0 compensation
these freaks continue to drain artists dry while getting fat kickbacks of their company stock soaring…
