He’d caught himself…staring…several times. At a long, lithe line of a body in dark clothes and leather, with tattoos scattered on pale skin. A bandana tucked in his back pocket just enough that it swung without falling—that when it swung, Steve noticed. Or when long fingers bedecked in silver rings twirled strands among a mess of wild, dark curls. Steve knew when he walked in the room. If he wasn’t paying attention, he physically perked up toward the door just as he crossed the threshold. His scent, this mix of mossy forest and rain and smoke, traveled across the room. Steve’s chest hurt—ached enough he had to press a hand against his sternum—when class ended and they walked opposite ways down the hall. His new senses hadn’t acted like this with the kids. Sure, when he had them all at the house or piled in the Beemer, the animal thing in his chest rumbled, pleased and warm. When they began telling him about sprinting home in fear of some asshole called Billy, his jaw ached from keeping his fangs in. He’d fucking growled. Steve hardly knew this guy. The one invading his senses, burrowing in under muscle and bone.

Ginger snippet D05-01 Steve was right. It did hurt as he prodded and manipulated the inflamed muscles. It was all Eddie could do to keep himself still, and it left no will to silence himself. Instead, Steve's hands pulled a chorus of moans, groans, and whimpers from him, and Eddie flushed in humiliation. Finally something Steve did made Eddie yelp in pain, and he smoothed a steady hand over Eddie's back. "Are you all right?" Steve asked with concern. "Did I find your limit?" Jesus, it was like he was trying to make it sound filthy, Eddie lamented silently, before shakily answering, ""Nope, all good!"" A dirty, dirty lie, but if he told the truth, Steve might stop. And however bad it hurt, Eddie was sure it would help in the long run. Steve was unimpressed. "You know, if I can't trust you to tell the truth, how are we supposed to have a good working relationship?" When Eddie couldn't answer, oddly ashamed, Steve rubbed his back gently. "I don't want to hurt you so bad you never want to come back," he said sternly. "I can focus on another spot for a little while." "Yeah, all right," Eddie conceded. "I'm sorry, Steve."
