I’m nearly 10k words into writing a novel and asked Reddit for some feedback— most of the comments were similar to this one. I got in my head and edited about 500 words out. THEN I started reading Peace by Gene Wolfe and have to remind myself that not everything needs to be cut down/made simpler

The best thing Gene Wolfe ever taught me was how to play with words + phrases. You can make brand new ways of saying things that sound so magical even if they’re “technically” nonsensical. I.E. I’ve seen people say Severian’s death scene in the flower fight is unnecessarily confusing- no it’s poetry

I felt really self conscious about my video essay so I deleted the whole thing then I actually started WATCHING video essays and everybody’s eyes really do go that way to read the teleprompter
