Trump thinks a trade agreement is a peace agreement. DRC agreement is between Rwanda and DRC governments in minerals etc. It’s the (state funded) militias that are fighting and it’s still heavy and ongoing. Trump stopped nothing, including his lies.
Every part of this is bonkers. The intro is bonkers. The transition to his health is bonkers. The mention that other presidents didn't need cognitive exams is bonkers. The claim that this screening test is somehow hard is bonkers. The idea that criticism of him is treason is bonkers. All of it.

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

Slightly better than the ‘excited’ that most public speakers suffer an excess of.
I’ve had an email from a hotel saying ‘we are eagerly awaiting you’ which seems a bit OVER-keen if anything. Rubbing their hands in reception, cackling. ‘Here he comes. Any time now.’

This Trump/ Netanyahu “deal” is primarily a property/development deal which will be vague/ambiguous and which, in any event, neither of them will stick to. It is a front. It will never end in peace. It will dissolve as soon as they both get what they want out of it. Surely no one will be fooled?

Today, the UN officially designated Israel’s assault on Gaza as a genocide.

As a party to the Genocide Convention, the U.S. has a legal obligation to obey our own laws, stop weapons sales to Israel, and demand a permanent ceasefire.

End the genocide. Ceasefire now.

No, no. I'm not saying that about Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk said that about George Floyd.

Just in case anyone's interested in what he thought was fair to say about someone who was killed on camera.

Good to hear this from a member of the Treasury team. The sky will not fall in if ministers speak for their politics, nor indeed against the legitimisation of violence against migrants, minorities and democratic politicians.
Yes thousands turned out - which is far more than I’d like - but that is dwarfed by the millions that understand real patriotism means loving your country as it actually is, not hating its diversity or trying to exploit its challenges. That’s what our flags actually represent

Watching all these centrist pundits stress the “civility” of Charlie Kirk’s style without addressing the ugliness of his substance is giving me a renewed appreciation of how the civil, polite White Citizens’ Councils conned the same crowd into thinking they were distinct from the cruder Klan.

Racism, in the form of immigration has been behind the news headlines more than anything else, virtually every day for 10 years. It’s obsessional and rarely real “news”. If Farage says it, the media headlight it. I’m so fucking bored of it and the general nastiness it brings with it.
Still on the EHCR are we?

British politics is stuck in a post-Brexit doom loop, addicted to spectacle politics and unable to engage with its actual problems: the sclerotic post-GFC economy that has seen real wages stagnate and increasing inability of government to invest in public services.

What does Philp say was the plan for the other 85,000 people?

What was the point of delaying by 6-18 months the processing?

If we model that sending 300 people to Rwanda, had provided a 100% deterrent to every future arrival [an absurd hypothesis] it does not deter the 85,000 already in the UK

Day in, day out, I speak to ordinary people who are organising to welcome the asylum seekers accommodated in their towns.

They befriend, support them, reach out to them as fellow human beings.

That's the Britain I know, the one I see around me & we never get told about on TV.
