An evergreen double feature?

Corporations have captured and commodified the hearts and minds of public consciousness. Solidarity is sold as subliminal branding. And people are all too happy to parade themselves as self aggrandised mascots

This is such a funny element to the Kirk eulogizing: they can’t describe him the way they’re describing him *and* show clips of anything he actually said or did
I haven’t seen one news channel show a clip of him speaking in the last 4 hours

Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.

I’m so on board with the Philippou brothers take on terror as a tutorialised product of withdrawal. Smothered and obscured through a digital lens, which trades unnatural forms of recreation via demonic gatekeepers wielding barely processed thought’s as genuine possession pleas

On a familiar note, something else that also involves pre-ordained outcomes. It’s surprisingly undepressing and actually super wholesome! Not what you’d expect when its premise follows coordinated conversations that only exist to serve a thoughtless consistency to wade through the mundanity of life

This statement from Jonathan Joss's husband is heart breaking.

No, headline writers, he wasn't "killed in an argument with a neighbor." He was *deliberately murdered* for being gay right after his dog was decapitated.

Bet the murderer calls himself a "Christian."

THIS is why Pride is important.

Got around to checking out Bandersnatch (before it got erased forever) A choose your own adventure for a non playable character who realises their life revolves around an outcome where free will is an action they are unable to express

DD Plague Doctor is so gender.

Terrible posture, never takes off the mask, willing to stab people despite being a nerdy twig. Has boobs buried so deep under the robes and various chemo-protective layers it's almost like an easter egg.

First movie of 2025!

Another Sophie Thatcher win. Jack Quaid’s nebbish demeanour speaks so clearly to a degree of lonely impressionable men who buy into trad wife subservience. Placeholder relationships, a farcical romance that dominates any chance of legitimate intimacy

You cant really name too many genres that attract an audiences emotional response to visceral scares as communal viewing, yet it weirdly compels so many people to stay watching. We never want to be scared ourselves but horror movies tell us the pressure isn’t on us, we’re just along for the ride
One of the reasons Horror is such an important genre right now — besides the fact that reality is a horror show — is that it’s a genre where people still regularly manage to make original and interesting films and increasingly that’s just not true about filmmaking in general

Hollywood creates a dream around rising stardom, everyone is performing a role to humour the idea they might just actualise their aspirations into a tangible presence. Showing themselves to be more in character while acting as an entirely different person

I’ve always found the apostles scarier than Damien himself. So I’m glad to say The First Omen elaborates that blinding devotion to an inexorable evil, organised to convert a secular society by coercing faith to be feared in all forms simply to keep people believing

Dalek and Boom Town revisit villains who now relate to him as survivors from previous encounters. Seeing him at his most remorseful and remorseless, we never get another hard switch dinner slapstick or a delightfully torturous Doctor in conversational sit downs

How radical to have your title character as a precariously sketchy traveller be an impetus for various escalations. Sharing more in common with the numbing barbarity they look down upon, while placing equally primitive endeavours before the safety of everyone around them

kinda irritates me that "dream logic" is an overused/overapplied term that gets pulled out any time a story is absurd or Weird in any way, because i think it's a really useful concept for describing how some types of fiction work (esp. as opposed to the conventional standard of "daytime logic")

actually fucks me up knowing that the hwang donghyuk the creator of squid game lost teeth due to stress while filming s1, did not want to make a s2, and only did it bc he got severely underpaid and earned zero residuals, royalties, or bonuses from netflix for s1.

This trilogy embellishes the traits of early 2000s comic book cinema, where a cinematic universe was an exciting prospect not a threatening taunt to lure actors into pyramid scheme projects to load Sony’s flop empire. Tom Hardy relishes this sweaty himbro performing till his son’s heart is content
