It was cold last weekend, but today (71 so far) is much closer to record high (75) than last weekend was to a record low.

For the month of November so far in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, we are five degrees Fahrenheit above average.

In October, we were 6.3 degrees Fahrenheit above average.

Here is a video on research that shows extreme weather events in the southeast United States increased the overall death rate for 10-15 years after the event. Why? Health problems, stress, dislocation, and diminished economic conditions due to the extreme weather.

Climate change is increasing costs for insurance, construction, and food, along with more out-of-pocket disaster damage. We urgently need to slow down, stop and reverse the buildup of climate pollution in the atmosphere.

They have suspended rescue efforts from the last typhoon - that killed over 200 - as a million evacuate for the even bigger typhoon.

Praying for the Philippines and more support for disaster relief, hazard mitigation, and action to cut climate pollution.

Things are really falling apart under Trump. He can’t get the government opened, but he’s taking care of his billionaire friends and himself, and he’s re-making the White House the way he wants it. Ugly.
Posts attribute this quote to Trump in 2013: "A government shutdown falls on the president's lack of leadership. I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. A shutdown means the president is weak." We looked into it: www.snopes.com/fact-check/t...
Trump once said, 'A government shutdown falls on president's lack of leadership' and spoke about 'weak' presidents?
An alleged 2013 quote from the then-businessman and reality TV host made the rounds online during the October 2025 U.S. government shutdown.

Might be too late to make the 7 pm show tonight (November 6) at the FilmScene in Iowa City, but I hope you get to see “Iowa’s Dirty Secret: The True Cost of Burning Coal,” a 30-minute documentary, soon.

When will Republicans in Congress negotiate with Democrats to end the shutdown?

Democrats are still at the table waiting, but House Republicans aren’t even in session.

People need food assistance (SNAP). People need affordable health care. People are working for us and need to be paid.
