'Still shaken': Trepidation in Venezuela after US captures Maduro
Venezuelans remain in shock after President Nicolás Maduro was deposed and captured in a U.S. military operation.

The New York Times is reporting that an 80-year-old grandmother Rosa Gonzalez was killed when her apartment was hit during Trump’s attack on Venezuela.

If true, it makes the illegal attack so much worse.

Venezuelan military personnel did not deserve to die, either.
January 4, 2026 at 6:33 PM
This is wrong.

“An airstrike hit a three-story civilian apartment complex and knocked out an exterior wall early Saturday as U.S. forces assaulted the city.

“The strike killed Rosa González, 80, her family said, and seriously wounded a second person.”

This war is completely illegitimate: 60% of Americans disapprove of going to war with Venezuela—74% disapprove war without Congressional approval. Only 19% are in favor.

The people oppose it. Our representatives didn’t approve it. Trump should be removed for this unconstitutional war.

Failing on the economy here, failing because of his illegal actions and overreach, and failing because of his other ethical and criminal problems (e.g., Epstein files), Trump says his administration is now going to run Venezuela. That is wrong.

Laying off FEMA staff will not make disaster relief better. Americans need more help, not less, when hurt by disasters. Congress should stop this.

More news on how Trump‘s policies are hurting farmers. One example: “The Local Food for Schools program and the Local Food Purchase Assistance program would have provided just over $1 billion this fiscal year. But Trump's USDA canceled the funding in March.”

Farm debt in the United States - adjusted for inflation - is now higher than it was at the start of the Farm Crisis in the 1980s.

I don't blame Trump entirely for this problem, but you will see large increases in his years as President and his policies are making it worse.

Rice and cotton farmers are getting 2-3 times more per acre in taxpayer bailout compared to corn and soybean farmers, and lots of smaller farmers are being left out.

This is after Trump gutted local food and conservation programs earlier this year.

Renee Hardman is another big win for Democrats in Iowa, just like others earlier this year (Mike Zimmer, Angel Ramirez, Catelin Drey). Real chance to flip Governor, U.S. Senator, and 2-4 U.S. House seats in Iowa in 2026.
Congrats to Renee Hardman on her over 40-point victory in SD-16 tonight. As the sixth straight Democratic overperformance in special elections since 2024, it’s clear Iowans are ready for change as we head into 2026.
