Hello everyone! I'm Selene, a dyslexic paranormal fantasy author, artist, and symphonic metal lover. My stories feature powerful, morally gray, queer supernaturals who curse like sailors. My heroes are NOT "alpha" males, and my heroines are badasses.
Here are some of my books 🧵

Honestly, if somebody wanted to complain at me for being "political," I probably didn't need or want them as a reader in the first place.

I'm trans. I write books about trans characters. They are gonna be political, as am I. Our existence has been *made* political. And my beliefs inform my stories.
So apparently: "authors shouldn't be political," is doing the rounds again.

So let's go over this again.
• trans rights are human rights
• LGBTQ+ rights are human rights
• gay people deserve to marry and adopt
• Women's rights are humsn rights.
• Believe women
• black lives matter

Whenever someone makes a racist or sexist joke I find it very effective to respond, “I’m afraid I don’t understand the joke. Would you care to explain?” and then watch as they flail helplessly, twisting themselves into an ouroboros of evasion and denial.

“Just calm down and let people enjoy chatgpt.” Sorry, no. I find it creepy that folks are treating a machine that mimics human speech as their friend / therapist. It is feeding you lies. It is destroying your thinking abilities. Shut it off. Talk to other humans. Go outside.

saw a one-star review from a lady on amazon who had begun reading a history book and was deeply upset by the Vikings’ use of “slightly crude language.” ma’am, if that offends you, you’re going to be SHOCKED when you learn what else the Vikings got up to

I don't want to “improve my rizz,” I want to be a scribe in an Irish monastery in 950 AD. I’m hunched over a manuscript, painstakingly retracing the letters. Pangur Bán, the abbot’s cat, brushes against my leg. I doodle her image in the margin. I’ve never heard of the internet. I’m happy.

Very unpopular opinion but I think in a healthier world our schools would teach the so-called “useless things”: Latin, old poetry, classic cinema, how to read and enjoy challenging novels. Studying these things won’t make you a better person. But they will give you a better life.

Don’t allow tech to turn you into an un-person. Refuse to let AI make things you could produce with your own brain. Develop your mental & creative faculties. Read constantly. They want you illiterate, and nothing threatens them more than a brain that is sharp and intact.

People think I'm kidding when I say there is a fascist agenda behind the promotion of AI. These devices are designed to kill literacy. We grew up in one of those rare periods of history where most people could read, and those who can read are harder to control.

People are reading AI-generated synopses of books and then claiming they read 100 books in a week. This is how the abolition of books began in Fahrenheit 451: classics were condensed into five-minute summaries for those too busy to do the reading. Later came the burnings.

Students don’t need chromebooks and AI tutors, they need Shakespeare and Jane Austen and the Greek myths, they need the Arthurian Legends and the Arabian Nights, they need constant exposure to nature, fairytales, folklore, poetry and beauty.

It’s adorable when guys dismiss Jane Austen as saccharine romantic fluff because I suspect none of her critics will write novels of such sharp comedy and keen understanding of human nature that they’re still being read by millions of people 250 years in the future.

Reading for pleasure has fallen by 40 percent since 2000. This is not progress. You should read because it's good for your brain, your soul. You should read because our freedoms will not long endure in a post-literate world. Most of all, you should read because it's fun.

Men assume Pride & Prejudice is a Hallmark romance when the plot is driven by the Bennet sisters’ fear of starvation because they will be homeless when their father dies. It’s a book about money, about people, and those who dismiss it as saccharine fluff are cheating themselves.

We're witnessing the greatest sustained attack on the human spirit in history. Big Tech seeks to destroy the arts. They're destroying the school system. They want to make us lobotomized people who can't read, write or create. They've turned dystopian fiction into a manual.

There's a certain, er, overenthusiastic fandom out there hating on Golden by Huntrix and saying it's AI, which is utter bs because we all saw Ejae, Audrey, and Rei sing it live. AND the singer this rowdy fandom stans for actually did use AI on promos. Ironic, no?
