The AI being hyped right now is not AI at all. It’s really important that we all acknowledge this, that the world is selling itself a multi-billion-dollar lemon: predictive text engines that have nothing intelligent about them. They’re giant sorting machines, which is why they’re so good at identifying patterns in scientific research, and could genuinely advance medicine in wonderful ways. But what they cannot do is think, and as such, it’s a collective mass-delusion that these systems have any use in our day-to-day lives beyond plagiarism.

The Mexican director has chosen to emphasise the romanticism at the expense of the horror. Elordi plays the creature as a misunderstood, James Dean-like outsider with Oedipal issues rather than as an agent of evil and chaos. Even if his face and torso are latticed with suitably grotesque scars, staples and stitches, he is not only the most sympathetic character in the movie but the best-looking one too. It’s left to Oscar Isaac to provide the real villainy as the brilliant but egomaniacal scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who “fathers” the monster but then promptly disowns him.

Speaking as a fantasy fiction author, you are the reader every author dreads. Do you know how hard it is to write with people like you out there? You have little basic knowledge of writing yourself -- at least, according to your own post -- but you are convinced you need to take the author down because of some flaw you find in their work. And half the time -- as here -- they aren't even actual flaws. They just demonstrate your own illiteracy (see farther down). You directly and smugly accuse this author of using AI -- with ZERO proof. And in a world in which we authors are fighting AI every single day right now. Do you know how hard it is to be an author right now? The vast majority of us aren't using AI, we're fighting it. I... found an obvious AI line, "let out a breath she didn't know she was holding." I was suspicious right away. I kept reading and found more things that didn't even make sense. "She padded across the floor," for example. That would be okay in a shifter romance but humans don't "pad." Characters were doing generic things like dragging their hands through their hair, clencing their jaws and arching their eyebrows. A side character's name changed too, and only for one sentence. You are hilarious. Let me help you. Many writers use "padded across the floor." This usually signifies that a character is barefoot, or perhaps wearing soft shoes. It often means they are trying to be quiet. And characters let out breaths, drag their hands through their hair, clench jaws, and arch eyebrows, because again, those are things human beings very commonly do. (Also: "Clenching" is spelled with a "ch.") A side character name was different? Most likely, the author changed the name late in the process, and missed a search-and-replace. Happened to me with the latest play I was writing (I missed a nickname of the old name and only caught it in final revision). Happens all the time. I'm literally so broke that I got the book through ✨other means✨ so I'm wondering if the fact I didn't make a purchase might actually help?? Wait a minute -- you're doing all this as someone who DIDN'T EVEN PAY FOR THE BOOK? You pirated the damn book? Do you know how gross you are? You tried to ruin a writer's life because you wanted to show off and be smug, because you read a book you stole, and aren't smart enough to recognize basic writing. I hope she takes every single cent of your $73 dollars. And every cent of your earnings for the next however many years.

Stupid readers and book pirates are an author's worst nightmare. This knob is both. Common descriptive phrases ≠ GenAI. M-dashes ≠ GenAI. I hope the author sues this thieving imbecile and leaves her without her precious 73 dollars.

I was suspicious right away. I kept reading and found more things that didn't even make sense. "She padded across the floor," for example. That would be okay in a shifter romance but humans don't "pad." Characters were doing generic things like dragging their hands through their hair, clencing their jaws and arching their eyebrows. A side character's name changed too, and only for one sentence. I don't want to post my exact review because I don't know if I should be talking about this online in the first place and don't want to bring more attention to it. But all I said was that the book is AI and I explained how I could tell. That's literally all I did. BUT THE WOMAN IS SUING ME. I've been panic-Googling for like 48 hours straight and apparently she has to prove what I said was false. But how can she prove she DIDN'T use AI? I'm a grad student. I have $73 in my bank account, I can't afford to deal with this right now. I'm literally so broke that I got the book through ✨other means✨ so I'm wondering if the fact I didn't make a purchase might actually help?? I know this is a stretch but I'm in full panic mode 😭 I have really bad anxiety and she is a big enough author I think she has the resources to follow through. Should I message her and apologize and promise to delete the review? I would have already deleted it but I feel like that's my only leverage at this point Help 😭 Edit: I'm in Florida if that matters Editing again because I was advised to not send anyone else pictures of the papers. But it was confirmed they are legit and not boilerplate. The author is in the US as well. So I don't think I can ignore this. And yes this is a throwaway, my main has links to my GR. I'm not doxxing myself.
