i think the thing i love most about the pouched rats detecting landmines is that the rats don't set off the mines. there's something exquisitely peaceful about the beasties not having to die to make us safer

FYI: The group (APOPO) who trains these hero rats (and other critters) does "adoptions" for donations and sends you monthly reports on how your animal is fairing and what training and field work they've done. I have been sponsoring them for years. They're good people.
