The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Community building and compassion will always beat facism. Anger and fear is what is trying to be provoked. If you think you only have two choices, you’re being manipulated. Choose eachother.

As a Canadian, seeing these Americans giggle at the idea of taking our sovereignty is fucking harrowing and offensive.
Q: Trump trolling or Trump truthing -- Greenland joining America?

LEAVITT: Definitely Trump truthing

Q: Canada becoming the 51st state

LEAVITT: Trump truthing. All the way. And the Canadians would benefit greatly.

If this wasn’t true a month ago, it seems more true now. We need more critical reflection like this. *honk honk*
Canada is no longer dealing with a globalizing neoliberalism that extracts surplus value from workers and the Global South. Instead, the US right works through a different regime of accumulation that bears more affinities to mercantilism than the neoliberal order it is in the process of supplanting.

I don’t know who will see this or needs to hear it. Here’s a honk for you:

Focus on the good you can find, who you love, & remember that we need kindness now more than ever.

I’ve never claimed to be a “Patriot”, but we cannot let fear divide our country that has always stood for kindness.
