Senate Democrats have capitulated on the shutdown, wasting months of time and giving up the only fight they've engaged with in Trump's second term. The only chance for Democrats now is for Progressives to attack the party and win election as change insurgents.

It’s Time for Progressive to Launch an Open Civil War Against the Democratic Establishment
Senate Dems capitulate again. Progressives will now need to save the party from itself.

My new piece in GreySidewalk, lamenting Democratic capitulation on the shutdown. It leaves us on the left with little choice but to openly wage war on the party establishment to save any Democratic chances at midterm victories.

👇 If you are donating ANY money at all, cancel it. That’s the first step. Then you harass your state and county dem orgs and you call your senators and tell them your demands. And you don’t stop. You keep going even when they stay quiet and hope it ends.
It only requires 10 Democratic Party senators to force a vote for new leadership in the Democratic caucus. It only takes 24 votes (simple majority) to appoint a new Minority Leader.
Call your state's senators and tell them that nothing less will satisfy right now. Chuck Schumer has failed us.

Attacking Air Traffic Controllers feels like it must be some kind of epigentic Republican trauma response. Let's attack the most stressful federal positions after we stripped them of their pay for a month and forced them to take 2nd jobs just to survive.

I like the message, and he's absolutely right about channeling anger. But now the best place for him to channel that anger is to call for an end to Schumer's leadership. We need Democrats who want to be fighters like Murphy to be willing to fight the forces holding them back in the party too.
Chris Murphy nailed it after last night's vote: "There's no way to sugarcoat what happened tonight. And my fear is that Trump gets stronger, not weaker, because of this acquiescence. I'm angry - like you. But I choose to keep fighting."

The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

The deal was terrible, now it's even more visibly awful that Republicans have already voted no on what will likely be the vote in December. But glad we gave up 40 days of fight and suffering for a vote they will lose.

Something I'm disappointed I didn't further discuss during the Chuck Schumer pile-on within: The capitulation may be one of the most embarrassing moments for a caucus leader. From a public perspective Schumer has presented himself either so cowardly he made a deal he didn't even vote for or... 1/2
