Dog in brine, Capbreton

Photography is about controlling your camera
Yet letting the picture kinda take itself
Trust the mistakes!

Over-exposure needs to be managed
A setting sun reflected in the sea?
Forget about it...
Just let it swamp the pic of the fisherman about to cast his line

The breakwater light on the starboard side of the entrance to the port at Capbreton is given the #icm treatment using a 1.5s exposure.

I went to the park to take pictures of a friend
When I got home, I had four unexpected white frames
I crushed the exposure by 5 stops to extract these images
They are random art, no?
I didn't take them; my thumb did...

Thanks to everyone who liked, reposted, or commented on my photos this year. It means so much to know you’re here.

I do try to engage back with everyone, and there’s a special core who keeps returning... you know who you are!

Thanks again and here’s to a creative 2026!

It's curious, the details in a photo that emerge are often surprising. The fingers on their left hand look strange, and the dog-with-log seems to be missing a leg. The wonders of a 1/20s exposure!.

Rivulet reflections on sunset beach.

This feels like it could be a huge river delta at sunset, yet it is barely 2 metres across.

A picture of my daughter on the beach at Capbreton around sunset, taken with my Laowa 12mm.

Little egrets in low flight over the Lac d’Hossegor, mid morning.

OK, last sunset pic... promise! This is what you get after the tide goes out. Rivulets carved into the sand that reflect the sunset sky.

A sailing boat at sunset from Bare Bum Beach near Hossegor on the south-west coast of France. I waited until the mast and sails cut the clouds in half. Not sure quite why but it seems to work.

A sunset couple with my Laowa 12mm that got in a twist

In France, Christmas is mostly celebrated on the 24th or le Réveillon. Yesterday, we were five for dinner. We ate a delicious meal and drank and laughed a lot.

This morning, I took this picture with my new Laowa 12mm autofocus.

I gestured to these Chinese tourists that I wanted to take a group picture. They happily obliged.

I'm trying out the Laowa 12mm as a street lens. Keep people in the middle you get loads of background info.

Picton Street Fayre, Bristol

Took this with my Laowa 12mm. I recently had an exchange with someone on my timeline about autofocus. He said that with a 12mm the depth of field is such that autofocus is redundant. I disagree. If a subject comes close, the background goes soft. Not so here, though

The wind turbine again... through the window of the restaurant at the Organic Farm Shop in Cirencester.

I took this today but felt as if was looking into the past.

A passerby at the Picton Street Fayre in Bristol, taken with my 12mm. This picture highlights the difficulty of taking pictures of people with a super-wide lens.
