Tired of the bird insanity. 1st modem was an acoustic coupler. Burning Man since ‘93. LVL1 Makerspace 10+ years. Planning more narrowboat time on the UK canals! Also now seanmcp.pixelfed.social to replace the ol’ Insta feed.
For my 🇬🇧 boatie friends. This is the Ohio River here in Louisville 🥶

Heading into Waitrose Lichfield for a “quick shop” that somehow turns into cheese, cake and something you’ve never tried before?

While you’re there, please pick up a green token at the till and vote for us in their Community Matters scheme. 🙏

VIDEO | Ice floats down the Ohio River in Louisville as temperatures stay frigid
The snow and very low temperatures Louisville has been experiencing the past week has led to an interesting scene on the Ohio River.

More freeze-ey today!
January 30, 2026 at 3:13 PM
For my 🇬🇧 boatie friends: This is the Ohio River (about 3/4 miles of open water bank to bank) & we’re cold enough to have slushy ice forming & building into floats. Won’t break freezing for a daytime high til next Tuesday so this may continue to build 🥶

BA - saving a bit more fuel on every flight! ✈️
Last night, while departing Las Vegas, British Airways flight BA274 lost one of its main landing gear wheels. The separation of the right, rear wheel from the A350-1000 was captured on our automated live stream at the airport. The flight continued for a safe landing in London.

Oh no!
A 139-year-old Scottish landmark has partially collapsed into the River Spey.
The historic Spey Viaduct, once a railway crossing and later a key walking and cycling route, has been closed after engineers confirmed scour damage.

56% of my inlaws’ utility company coverage is still out (down from 59%). Unlike large chunks of 🇬🇧, our utility lines are largely overhead due to the long distances.

Another for my 🇬🇧 boatie friends - Seriously, in an area where no one owns snowblowers, this is a lot of snow 😝 Checked multiple spots on a concrete base, including next to my now shoveled driveway path.

To my 🇬🇧 friends - in the US Midwest and south, we’re always watching the meeting grounds of weather systems. From north to south today we have 12+” of snow❄️, then switching to crippling ice🧊(our power lines are all above ground), & when you get south of the ice, it’s tornados🌪️ on the menu!

I’m feeling seven kinds of silly. 😳 @drlucyrogers.com I’ve followed your stuff for years from here in the US (robot wars, bits for our local Makerspace LVL1, etc) but just now saw you’re a Narrowboater 🤦‍♂️ We’re having our new one built now (custom electric hybrid); any favorite boatie tech toys?

Not sure if large parts of the bridge falling into the S&W canal at Lock 38/Penkridge near the Boat Inn is *just* an obstruction per se #ukcanal canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices/019b...

All my 🇬🇧 boatie friends are missing out on the festive tornado warnings! 70 mph winds, 3/4” hail, and torrential rain, with the entire front moving east at 55-60 mph!

My 🇬🇧 boatie friends might understand my appreciation of ‘boring’ weather. Midwest US… Sunday Afternoon:72F/22C, then ⛈️, then ❄️ and by Monday evening, 20F/-7C. Yeah, no typo.

😢
All my recent books went from hardcover to trade paperback and almost all of my backlist in mass market has now migrated to trade. The role of mass market paperbacks is now handled almost entirely by ebooks. I'm okay with this but it is the end of an era.
