It’s really obvious if you’re the party in power you shouldn’t talk about how godawful everything is and has been, but dimwits left of center can’t figure this out because all their parasocial internet relationships are built around perpetual nonstop misery-mongering.
A sense of bad national conditions favor the party outside the White House. GOP rhetoric when Bush or Trump was President was *positive* about national conditions on the whole. The threat and scapegoat routine was portrayed as a threat to prospering core.
