The US taxpayer, assuming this is true, is paying to send people overseas to be tortured.

Exactly. And another scary reference comes from Hannah Arendt’s “Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil.” Under certain circumstances anyone can become an Eichmann. We’re seeing that as MAGA embraces cruelty and violence.
