we are now experiencing the 3rd bear MKT in 5 years. 2020 was a sharp, albeit, brief crash. 2022 was a longer in duration, but much less volatile. base case is the current bear market will combine the worst features of each. we’ll see a protracted, volatile market many are optimistically dismissing

The Trump ordeal has made one thing clear.

Too many of our checks and balances rely on norms, traditions and the honor code.

It works when those elected into power are people of honor and integrity who respect our norms and traditions.

The decline of legacy corporate media (reporting), rise of AI, and growing hegemony of index investing all stems from the same underlying assumption — that there’s someone out there doing the work and providing signals/quality data that technology can scrape and parse without having to vet too much.
