For those who don’t know me. Here’s a thread.🧵

I was raised by fundamentalist Christian’s who also happened to be anti-vaxx. We also were very poor because my dad left us when I was in late middle school for another woman (a bit counter to the churches teachings but I digress).

“Ultimately, science isn’t just the pursuit of new knowledge, it is a daily practice of hope happening in labs, clinics, and quiet offices. We are all connected through this hope, even when the progress toward it seems invisible”

This is a powerful account from a PhD student whose fellowship was terminated by NIH because it was part of a "diversity" program without any other considerations or understanding of what the program or the students were actually doing.

NIH Student Grant Cancellation Will Weaken Scientific Innovation
The termination of federal F31 diversity fellowships puts many graduate students in a bind — and U.S. science at risk.

A poorly conducted study, submitted as a correspondence, claims to show increased cancer diagnosis one year after Covid-19 vaccination.

In truth, the quality of science in this supposed study was abysmal and filled with major methodological flaws.

The New York Times piece today about US science is terrible and wrong—in many ways.

I could write a whole article about this, but as one example:

“To close observers, the original crisis began well before any of this…”
No. I’m a close observer of science, and this is incorrect.

Actions like this won’t make us healthier.
It's exceedingly hard to argue that the administration & MAHA are committed to improving nutrition when they're simultaneously cutting everything from SNAP-Ed to innovative community nutrition work - cements the perception that food dyes are public health theatre.

New collab with @sabivm.bsky.social no surprise the Prasad and Makary NEJM had many issues and errors.
The new FDA policy paper on COVID-19 vaccination by Vinay Prasad & Marty Makary included a table comparing the new US policy with other countries. However, they got most of the recommendations wrong - some lacked nuance, & others were blatantly incorrect.
