Jean was truly a fabulous person and mentor. Just can not put her influence into words.

THIS IS NOT MEL TORME: Tonight's installment of the December Comfort Watch is Top Secret!, in which we examine why it underperformed when it came out and why it - might - be funnier now than in 1984. Also: Damn, Val Kilmer is pretty:

The December Comfort Watches 2025, Day Thirty: Top Secret!
Top Secret! (the exclamation point is part of the title) makes not one single solitary goddamned bit of sense. It’s a movie from the 80s with a hero from the 50s in a geopolitical setting fro…

Dear @support.bsky.team & @bsky.app, a quality of life ask. When scrolling thru a list, if you click on and open an image from a post, when you swipe right or down to exit you are automatically put back to the top of the list. A bit annoying when you are trying to catch-up on the list.
Possible fix?

About a year ago I toyed around with the idea of testing LLM “tautological” knowledge. AI says it’s true because AI reports it true.

I gave up when I realized that it was already close to that situation and would likely cross that threshold soon.
Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things

In today's installment of The December Comfort Watches: Swimming to Cambodia. One man, one stage, one desk, one story, and the one other film this film is most like might be one of the greatest concert films ever made, directed by the same person.

Naive question for someone trained in molecular biology and infectious disease: What makes a question or a study ecology v. evolution or vice versa?

I find myself following interesting infectious disease questions into evolution and ecology and stepping on field boundaries without realizing it.

OK, let’s take 🧪🧬 Sky for a spin. GSEA has a known link btwn the FDR and the # of gene sets used in analysis. Depending on which MSigDB lvl you use it can range from 50-16K !
Like cnts/feat/10K cells used for scRNAseq, is there a way to standardize the FDRs for something like 1K gene sets compared?
