combine that with decades of concerted messaging cementing an us vs them mentality, claiming people who believe like them (christians, or white men, or small town values) are under attack and *that* is why life is so hard now, and the lie that any of us might magically become a billionaire...

I've been pondering how much of republican views are due to the just world fallacy.
Good things happen to good people. bad things happen to bad people. so therefore, anyone murdered by federal agents, anyone roughed up by cops, anyone in jail, well they must have done something to deserve it.

It disappeared on a feed refresh but I laid eyes on a r/ post of a girl who looks at frog videos when she misses her boyfriend, because she thinks he looks like a frog, but most importantly she thinks frogs are really really cute, but she doesn't know how to tell him this w/o hurting his feelings.

Have seen many variations of this & broadly agree—but the part that struck me in the moment wasn’t “this is a microcosm for how America sucks” — it was “this is a microcosm for trying to behave democratically & respectfully of one another in a complex, evolving situation with things we can't know.”
i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

It's such a minor illness in the grand scheme of things, but my body is trying to kill me, and I'm enough with it that I'm sooooooo annoyed and over it.
