I've been pondering how much of republican views are due to the just world fallacy.
Good things happen to good people. bad things happen to bad people. so therefore, anyone murdered by federal agents, anyone roughed up by cops, anyone in jail, well they must have done something to deserve it.

Abolish ICE, prosecute and imprison its leaders, impeach and remove the President from office. This is the only sane reaction to a group of armed men kidnapping and gunning down our neighbors in the street.
As tens of thousands across America protest the violence that ICE sows with impunity, federal agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis today.
ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.

Have seen many variations of this & broadly agree—but the part that struck me in the moment wasn’t “this is a microcosm for how America sucks” — it was “this is a microcosm for trying to behave democratically & respectfully of one another in a complex, evolving situation with things we can't know.”
i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

so on Tuesday I had a persistent tickle in my throat. Wednesday it graduated to an unmoving lump and my voice was completely gone. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I'm dealing with that. No voice, painful throat, but no other symptoms.

I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

well, I did actually like Google's automatic sorting of my emails into different folders, but they've now tied that feature into the same setting list as the annoying ass AI summaries, so guess it's all getting turned off.
