imagine your job is talking to others about your beliefs publicly in large groups & online to encourage them to believe how you do

...and then getting defensive & refusing to give any direct response when asked about those beliefs by your very public 2nd job

that'd be weird right? #bb27 #bbsky

Yglesias should consider that Yglesias gets yelled at on here because his ideas, and his attempts to communicate them, are dumb

*here's a little power*

"shut up dumbfucks, pay me"
A shutdown would give Donald Trump and Elon Musk carte blanche to destroy vital government services at a significantly faster rate than they can right now.

history shows that the best proven strategy against the rapid dismantling of institutions is "to completely capitulate at every step" (aka roll over and whine for bellyrubs)
Donald Trump, Linda McMahon, and the Republicans are working to shut down the Department of Education.

This will hurt our kids. 90% are in public schools. And we are fighting back for our kids’ education.

States Sue to Stop Trump’s Education Department Layoffs
A group of attorneys generals from mainly Democratic-led states said the cuts would decimate the agency.

The thing about the Super Bowl this year is all the worst ads were either retreads, nonsense, or plain off-putting.

The best ones were still mostly retreads, but had someone kinda recognizable say something that kinda made sense to the brand, but mostly: boring

not unlike Dem messaging tbh

Very reminiscent to the "palace intrigue" articles of his first term that never went anywhere

NEW: A half dozen Trump loyalists in and around the admin have told WIRED there’s a fissure emerging between Musk and Trump camps, following Musk’s DOGE takeover.

Elon Musk's Takeover Is Causing Rifts in Donald Trump's Inner Circle

I'm sure @schumer.senate.gov is good at some element of holding together the Dem senators or whatever but good lord we need a leader who can idk, actually lead with a message proportionate to the dismantling of basic governance

this is just so unserious
Schumer: "Today Leader Jeffries and I are joining together to push legislation to prevent unlawful meddling in the Treasury Department's payment systems and protect Americans across the country ... we call our legislation, 'stop the steal'"

There’s a repeating phrase on The Traitors along the lines of “maybe you’re a traitor or a bad faithful, but either way you have to go”
Chuck Schumer’s advice for Democrats staring at a long two or more years out of power: Just wait.

“Trump will screw up,” he tells Semafor in an interview.
‘Trump will screw up’: Schumer plots the Democratic comeback
The Senate minority leader talked to Semafor about his approach to the president’s polarizing uses of executive power.

love the irony of the far right turning our elections into gawk-worthy spectacles worldwide, which makes it super obvious what states tariffed countries should target

like I heard Australians talk about Miami-Dade county in Nov, they shouldn't be burdened with that knowledge

@schumer.senate.gov talking like a fucking visa ad isn’t quite “responding to the severity of the moment”

Is there anyone left in the Democratic Party who can talk like a human being

Nyt reporters: “Mr Elon Musk was merely showcasing his revolutionary method for airing out perpetually sweaty, stanky armpits. A striking example of conservatives understanding the issues affecting average Americans”
I've watched the video ~two dozen times. The gesture, which is done twice, seems both bizarre and familiar. He pats his open hand to his heart, before extending his arm palm down above his head with a grunt and pursed lips. Then he turns around and does it again.

Elon Musk Ignites Online Speculation Over the Meaning of a Hand Gesture
Speaking at a celebratory rally in Washington, Mr. Musk twice extended his arm out with his palm facing down, drawing comparisons to the Nazi salute.

In what way did these experts of the “campaign industry”, as they call it, weigh in? They made these decisions, yet all we hear is nonsensical ideology & constant reference to the short length of the campaign

Most of you were on the Biden campaign! You failed, congrats on your portion of the 1 bil
