A page dedicated to the fight to protect Wombat State Forest and see its permanent protection as a National Park for future generations.
Loophole Logging continues by @ffmv.bsky.social above the Loddon River at Lyonville Springs. Huge damage to a riparian area in an area of forest almost 5 years into recovery. All this in an area soon to be declared a National Park. @stevedimopoulos.bsky.social please call time on this now!

A good little article on the gross negligence and ongoing environmental damage to the Wombat Lerderderg National Park from Prof. David Lindenmayer... johnmenadue.com/post/2026/02...
Why ‘salvage logging’ undermines a promise to end native forest logging
Despite announcing an end to native forest logging, destructive logging practices continue in Victoria under the guise of firebreaks and post-storm debris removal – with serious consequences for biodi...

Still no mention of the elevated fine fuels created by the salvage logging in Wombat or any other area where salvage has taken place?

Check out the great Age article by Bianca Hall on the ongoing disgraceful salvage logging in the newly declared Wombat Lerderderg National Park... www.theage.com.au/environment/...
Fresh logs piled high in Wombat State Forest revive concern about removing fallen trees
The forest will become a national park next year, but contractors are now removing more timber from the forest than before the ban on commercial native logging.

I highly doubt the forest wars are over but let's hope these Parks are a little bit closer and push the loggers a bit further away... www.theage.com.au/environment/...
As Victoria unveils ‘last national parks’, are the forest wars over?
She tried to drive away from men wielding chainsaws in a forest coupe. But that was only the beginning.

A great article on the importance of fallen logs and their role in forest ecology. This is the sort of science that should be conducted on the windthrow in Wombat. The damage from the salvage logging far exceeds the benefit. www.scientificamerican.com/article/dead...
He’s Spent 40 Years Studying Dead Trees—Here’s What He’s Found

Great to see that this legislation has finally been tabled. It doesn't stop here though - now we need to see that our Parks are properly funded and resourced. Let's hope this legislation sails through...

I look forward to seeing your plot selection. "Go well" - looks like you and Pete have been spending a lot of time together.

Lets see what you come up with. Independent funds? - anything further you can share there?

Why do you never mention the fine fuels created by the processing of logs Tom? Or the compaction of soils that then lead to increased runoff and limit rain water penetration. I have never seen you examine this in any of your work.

It is a disgrace. This is happening in the promised Wombat-Lerderderg National Park. It is impossible that this amount of timber removal of fallen trees is for reduction of fire risk – perhaps we should completely clear the forest to eliminate any risk of a bushfire.

If it looks like a duck; walks like a duck; quacks like a duck. but it's not logging? if it's logged by a logger; loaded by a log loader; sorted at a log yard then delivered 2 a logging mill. Ya'd reckon it's logging. Nah. People are getting pretty sick of being gaslit.

Thanks for the offer to meet - I appreciate you reaching out. At this stage, I don’t see a meeting as the most productive or necessary step, so I’ll respectfully decline for now.

I’ll stay in touch if circumstances change or if there’s a clearer purpose for a conversation.

Pretty clear that the papers conclusion "Thinning is not warranted as a routine fuel management method when previously logged forests transition into conservation tenure." likely indicates a long bow being drawn there Tom.

They axed VicForests, but the bulldozers are still rolling. Wombat Forest is being trashed under the guise of “salvage”. This is public land, not a free-for-all. Stop the lies. Stop the logging. Legislate the park. #StopTheSalvage #WombatForest #VicGovFail

Ok. No problem. Have a good break and congrats on the new addition.

Thanks. Let me know a time that would work for you. Do you still have my number? If not I can PM it through.

Tom - I thought about your response yesterday to my question regarding fine fuels from processing the windthrow and other negative impacts. I'm troubled by one aspect of your reply. To our knowledge the only work done justifying or responding to the windthrow was produced by you and Flare...
